Civil Servant Hunter’s S-class Resignation Log – Chapter 24
'Even if I ask that, it's always the same reaction. Does he just not want to tell me, or is there no reason at all?'
Se-ra shrugged as she glanced up at empty air again while tapping away at her keyboard. Whatever. The important thing was that thanks to the Administrator right now, she was aliveand she'd been given so much that her heart felt full to bursting.
A regressor's curiosities were none of her business anyway, so she decided to ignore it.
Or rather, she was forced to.
"A gate has occurred in Sangam-dong! It's a blue gate, but of all places, right by the broadcasting station!"
Talk about perfect timing for a dungeon alert. Se-ra's face fell in an instant, all her thoughts blown away.
"A broadcasting station? Even the slightest problem and it'll be total chaos."
The second word of the gate got out, cameras would come rushing over. And if anything went wrong, they'd rip into the Association. There were plenty of people who saw the Associationpractically a dictatorship under Song Han-naas a thorn in their side.
Ugh. It felt like ten years had already been shaved off her lifespan.
"Sangam-dong is Team 1's sector. Take care of it."
"The team leader and section chief are both out, so we'll have to go."
Gong Hae-yeon's words made Se-ra's face fall even further.
Of all times! If she'd known, she'd have thrown in her resignation the second she clocked in! Her chat with Kang Se-jun had her half-distracted, and she'd completely forgotten.
Why did interruptions like this always pop up whenever she tried to quit? What if she never managed to resign at this rate?
"Guess I should pre-game with some Park Cass..."
Se-ra rose from her seat with the saddest look imaginable.
"No need for both of you to go. Just one of you come with me."
Do Jun-young approached then and spoke. Both women's eyes went wide.
"The director himself is going? Is there a problem?"
"I'm planning to leave this dungeon to Mr. Kang Se-jun."
Ah, got it. So he wanted to gauge the new L-rank Awakener's power firsthand.
"Just one dispatch, then."
"In that case."
Se-ra and Hae-yeon exchanged glances. Three years of working together meant no words were needed. They both shouted at once, hands shooting out.
"Rock, paper, scissors!"
"Rock, paper, scissors!"
In that brief instant, their hands were revealedand joy and sorrow diverged.
* * *
Se-ra thought to herself.
No matter how I look at it, my luck is utter trash. Or maybe I've used up every bit of luck from my contract with the Administrator.
"A win rate under 20 percent."
Sangam-dong, where the gate had burst open. Seeing all the cameramen and reporters swarming around plunged her into gloom. She'd played rock-paper-scissors with Hae-yeon countless times over three years, but Se-ra had almost never won.
Gong Hae-yeon, can you read minds or something?
"You decide dispatches with rock-paper-scissors?"
She could feel Kang Se-jun's pitiful gaze. Se-ra shot him a glare from the side where Do Jun-young couldn't see.
If it weren't for youjust youI'd have submitted my resignation today...! This is all your fault!
"Plenty of them here, huh? Do they have to assign broadcasting stations to gates like this?"
Kang Se-jun ignored Se-ra's fierce glare and turned away. The constant flashes were annoying, to be sure.
He'd never shown his face publicly, but these people lived by their instinctsthey'd sniffed it out.
That he was the L-rank Awakener.
"If it's bothersome, do as you please. No one would dare complain about an L-rank Awakener."
"Was planning to anyway."
At Do Jun-young's words, Kang Se-jun snapped his fingers. Suddenly, cameras all around sparked and popped, exploding one after another.
"Gasp, what the! My camera!"
"No! I just bought this one!"
"Aaaah! No backup on the memory!"
Cries mixed with wails rose from every direction. But everyone knew exactly who'd done it, and not a single person dared glare.
Of course not. One wrong look and their eyes might get gouged outwho'd risk it?
No one had forgotten the story of some fool overseas who messed with an L-rank and ruined three generations of his family. So they screamed while keeping their eyes and mouths in check.
With the area finally quiet, Se-ra began measuring the gate. Honestly, it had been uncomfortable, but now that the cameras were gone, she felt relieved.
"Type: standard dungeon. Grade 3."
"Just the two of us will enter, so please wait here, Yoon Se-ra."
Do Jun-young's face twisted at the words "Grade 3 dungeon." He glanced at Se-ra, clearly worried she'd recall bad memories.
No reason for her to step up, so Se-ra nodded readily.
But Kang Se-jun thought differently from Do Jun-young.
"No, I think it'd be better if you came in with me than the director."
Se-ra's eyes went round, and Do Jun-young openly scowled.
"It's dangerous."
Kang Se-jun wore an indescribable expression for a moment. Se-ra read his eyes perfectly.
You're a really good actor, huh?
"Forgot your skills? If the two of us go into a Grade 3 dungeon together, the monsters will come charging right at us."
'What? That goes for me too.'
Unlike Do Jun-young, Kang Se-jun knew she was S-rank. So why was he making excuses just to drag her along?
'I don't wanna go in?'
Couldn't even submit her resignation, lost rock-paper-scissors, and now had to watch this guy she didn't even like rampage?
Oh, she'd pass.
But just as Se-ra was about to say she didn't want to go with a reluctant face
The Administrator was frantically pointing at the gate.
'I have to go in?'
Its eyes were sparkling. Se-ra gasped at the sight of it so thrilled. That lookthat gaze!
'Is there some good item here or something?'
System Administrator: (((o(*>Thwack, thwack, thwack! The hearty pickaxe swings rang out cheerfully.
Behind her, Kang Se-jun once more wore an indescribable expression.
Life's sixth round, begun with his fifth regression.
For some ominous reason, it felt like he'd be tangled up with this crazy woman multiple times.
