Chapter 141
Chapter 141
Civil Servant Hunter’s S-class Resignation Log – Chapter 141
Over twenty hunters entered the gate. The attack team took the lead, the new hunters and Do Jun-young stood in the middle, and Yoon Se-ra and Han Su-eon guarded the rear.
The most common type of cave dungeon had beautiful glowing stones embedded everywhere, which thankfully posed no major issues for visibility. However, the light wasn't coming solely from the ores.
"There's a glowing liquid."
A sticky liquid emitting light coated the floor and walls indiscriminately. One of the attack team's rangers pulled a wooden stick from their inventory and poked at the liquid.
"It's a sticky mucus with weak acidity. Fortunately, no poison."
"Then it's probably slimes."
The new hunters carefully scanned the dungeon interior while focusing on the attack team's swift judgment.
"I hear sounds. Monsters are coming."
The attack team instantly shifted into combat formation. Amid the heightened tension, green slimes large enough to swallow an adult began appearing one by one.
"No poison, so take them out with fire!"
"Ranger, team up with the mages!"
The battle commenced with the raid leader's shout. The new hunters gripped their weapons tightly despite their trembling hands, concentrating on the fight.
"They're scared, but they're holding steady. On their first training day, some hunters even collapse and cry."
If trauma sets in from the very beginning, it becomes difficult for them to continue as hunters. Yoon Se-ra and Do Jun-young's role was to provide maximum support to prevent that from happening to any of the rookies.
"I'm curious about Yoon Se-ra-ssis first training session."
Han Su-eon, who had been watching her own guild members more closely than the new hunters, turned her attention to Yoon Se-ra.
"Me? Hmm, well, nothing special. I awakened, took the exam right away, got hired, and did training afterward. Uh, what was it like again."
Yoon Se-ra had been the lowest of the F-ranks. That's why, even in a mere 5th-grade dungeon for training, she'd nearly died. Killing even a single monster had been a struggle with her own power.
"Do Section Chief was in charge of training back then too. Thanks to his close guidance, I didn't suffer any major injuries."
The monsters inhabiting that dungeon had resembled bees. They'd been annoying fliers that swarmed in groups, and their stings carried a mild paralyzing venom, making it quite a ordeal. If Do Jun-young hadn't subtly protected her from the sidelines, she would have suffered from the poison for quite a while.
At the time, she'd simply thought his help was part of the training.
"Good to hear."
"It was."
While guiding the new hunters, Yoon Se-ra watched Do Jun-young as she protected them from any danger.
Back then, she had been filled with venomous rage. Dungeons and monstersthe cause of her parents abandoning her. Overjoyed at finally confronting them, she'd tried to kill them with everything she had. In the end, with Do Jun-young stepping in out of exasperation, she'd barely managed to take down one. Then she'd mutilated the already-dead corpse, as if it were the enemy of her parents.
It wasn't a pleasant sight, so the other trainees had subtly avoided her. Only Gong Hae-yeon had approached her warmly, saying she'd be safe as long as she stuck by Yoon Se-ra's side. That was why her only close colleague was Gong Hae-yeon.
That had been January of the year she turned twenty. Exactly three years later, so much had changed.
"Come to think of it, Do Section Chief said he's friends with Yoon Jae-hun. So you two already knew each other."
Yoon Se-ra slyly averted her gaze. She had no desire to recount that black history.
"That's why Do Section Chief took such special care of Yoon Se-ra-ssi."
But this was an unexpected remark.
"Huh, was it that obvious?"
"Of course. Every time I tried to scout Yoon Se-ra-ssi, she'd shoot me those glares. Now I finally understand why."
Right, that had happened too. Thinking back, he really had looked out for her openly. It must have been because of the promise he'd made as a kid to protect her. She hadn't even realized he was her brother's friend.
"That might be a bit dangerous."
As she gazed at Do Jun-young's back with a mix of apology and gratitude, Han Su-eon nodded toward the depths.
A house-sized slime emerged from deep within the cave. That was the boss monster.
"C-ranks won't get hurt, but it could be risky for E-rank and below."
Yoon Se-ra nodded in agreement. No poison was a relief, but the acidity alone posed a serious threat to low-rank hunters.
"One bolt of lightning from the Guild Master would burn it to a crisp."
"That would defeat the purpose. I don't think we should let them start off expecting someone to always step in during a crisis."
It sounded cold, but she was right. That was why the first training experience was so crucial. Just like Yoon Se-ra, who had gritted her teeth and slain a bee monster despite her near-civilian physical abilities.
"Tanker, block the slime! Healers, keep the tanker's health steady by dealing with the acidic liquid!"
"It's changing form!"
"Ranger, snipe it!"
Whip-like tentacles suddenly burst from the boss slime's round body, lashing toward the attack team's position. The tank blocked them, and the ranger shot down the ones that slipped through.
The tentacles breaking through to target the new hunters were sniped by a mana bullet from Yoon Se-ra at the rear. As Han Su-eon glanced her way, she shrugged.
"My principle is not to inflict severe trauma right from the first training."
"Naturally. If it's Headbang-nim's will, I'll follow suit. Still, trust my attack team for now. Even our third army is reliable enough to handle newbie training."
Han Su-eon was spot on. Despite a few minor injuries, they downed the boss monster before any new hunters got hurt. They even perfectly handled the cleanup by burning the acidic mucus to prevent it from reaching anyone.
"5th-grade dungeon cleared."
Only after confirming the boss monster death notification did the attack team lower their weapons. Three or four of the new hunters plopped down onto the ground in exhaustion.
"Two injured, both minor. They can get treated back at the guild."
However, the attack team's work wasn't over yet. They swiftly tended to the injured, checked for any damage, and thoroughly collected all the dungeon byproducts.
The new hunters, lost in the heat of battle and forgetting about post-combat cleanup, let out an "oh" of realization. That was exactly why training was essential.
"You all handled your first training remarkably calmly. Those who are injured, please raise your hands."
Do Jun-young and Yoon Se-ra meticulously checked the new hunters' bodies. They treated any scrapes or abrasions with potions.
Even as trainees, the joy of successfully completing their first raid had their faces flushed with excitement.
"Tomorrow, we'll conduct 4th-grade dungeon training."
After exiting the dungeon and confirming the gate's closure, Do Jun-young made the announcement. Tension crept back onto the new hunters' faces, which had been lit with joy.
"Don't worry. Noeul Guild, the most aggressive yet defensively solid among the top five guilds, will be with you."
"Aggressive sounds niceit's just reckless."
Han Su-eon whispered in Yoon Se-ra's ear. Honestly, she had no idea why Noeul and Cheongrang were on such bad terms.
"It was a pleasure meeting you, even if briefly. Swing by Cheongrang Guild sometime. I'll treat you to a meal."
"A meal? Do I really deserve that?"
"Of course. You claimed the number one spot domestically."
Ah, the shocking first day of the new year came to mind. The celebratory number one banner still hung on the office wall even half a month later.
"You don't have to go out of your way to congratulate me."
"Think of it as an excuse. It's my effort to forge a connection with the top ranker. And that business card I gave youyou never used it, did you?"
Ah, the one she'd shoved in her inventory and forgotten. Yoon Se-ra let out a fake cough, and Han Su-eon smiled brightly.
"I'm glad. That you're safe, Yoon Se-ra-ssi."
The werewolf dungeon incident. It seemed Han Su-eon still hadn't forgotten that day.
"So, contact me anytime. I'll apologize properly for what happened then and treat you to a delicious meal."
"You've already apologized."
Even so, since Yoon Se-ra didn't refuse and said it was fine, Han Su-eon finally looked satisfied. It felt nice that the famously prickly man was treating her so mildly.
The jealous icon administrator tried flipping the table, but Yoon Se-ra ignored it. There was nothing worse than taking rice away from a Korean.
"The day felt so short. I wish I could've seen you longer."
"We'll meet again."
"Sure, but be careful tomorrow."
Yoon Se-ra tilted her head at Han Su-eon's words. Careful? For a 4th-grade dungeon?
"Not the dungeonwatch out for people."
her follow-up was still cryptic, and she seemed unwilling to elaborate. Though puzzled, Yoon Se-ra didn't press further.
"."
If she'd known what he meant, she would have asked.
The next day, the eagerly awaited third day of training.
"Headbang! Long time no see!"
Eun In-jae, Noeul Guild Master with a cotton robe draped over her shoulders, was waving enthusiastically in front of the gate with a beaming smile.
Did these guild masters seriously have nothing better to do? Yoon Se-ra wanted to ask straight-up.
"I was under the impression that Noeul's second army raid team would be participating."
A line similar to yesterday slipped from Do Jun-young's mouth. However, Eun In-jae's reaction was even more intense than Han Su-eon's.
"How could I stay cooped up in the office when Headbang is coming? Don't worry, Do Section Chief. I won't interfere. I'm not that inconsiderate."
Beyond the brightly smiling Eun In-jae, the sharply disciplined Noeul guild members were visible. Yoon Se-ra felt a twinge of pity seeing them glance at their guild master's mood.
"In Cheolwon, I got knocked out too early and missed out on Headbang's skillsit was such a shame. Of course, you won't need to step in today, but when else would we get to do this together?"
She looked thrilled, so telling her to leave wouldn't work anyway. Do Jun-young sighed, his expression saying he had plenty to say but wouldn't bother.
"And didn't Han Su-eon show up yesterday too? You wouldn't say he's fine but not me, right?"
'That's exactly the biggest problem.'
She'd have to extract a huge meal from Han Su-eon later.
