Chapter 14
Civil Servant Hunter’s S-class Resignation Log – Chapter 14
And that very night.
Out of sheer boredom, Yoon Se-ra logged into the S-rank exclusive communityand spat out the beer she was sipping when she saw the hot new post.
"What the hell? What is this? When did he get beaten?"
He'd looked perfectly fine the last time I'd seen him. Did something go down after I left?
Yoon Se-ra hastily straightened up and clicked on the post, which was obviously written by the Noeul Guild Master. The content was a sight to behold.
|Han Su-eon| : You're all having quite the party.
|Noeul-ie| : hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
|SuhorangGuildKing| : hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
|YeongwonQuitter| : hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
|HanNaHo| : Sorry, Su-eon^^
|Yeonhee| : Oh no...
...Park Jin-yong might actually get killed soon.
Yoon Se-ra offered a brief moment of silence for Han Su-eon, who had become the S-ranks' favorite plaything.
* * *
It was a rainy night.
A faint light seeped from Yoon Se-ra's dimly lit studio apartment. Lightning flashed through the gaps in the thick blackout curtains covering the windows, briefly illuminating the room.
"Heh heh, heh heh heh!"
With the occasional creepy cackle drifting out, the atmosphere was downright eerie.
"Ahh, this is too good. High-rank item shops have all the best stuff!"
Yoon Se-ra was currently browsing the item shop run by the system.
The shop, where Awakeners could freely buy and sell items they'd crafted or looted, operated on a strict tier system. Low-rank Hunters never made much money anyway, so they couldn't afford the pricey gearwhich meant Yoon Se-ra had no complaints about the setup until now.
But when she hit S-rank and gained access to the high-tier shopfor B-rank Hunters and aboveit was like her eyes had been opened for the first time.
Holy crap. So this is what the big shots have been enjoying! Endless rare items!
She'd cleared two dungeons solo and scored some loot, so she could sell it all and rake in the cash!
"Money, money...!"
Cha-ching! As coins poured into her balance with that satisfying sound, Yoon Se-ra's face lit up with bliss.
"As expected, tier-3 and 4 dungeon drops fetch top coin."
Werewolf claws, silver wolf pelts, stone giant coresthey were all prime materials for gear crafting, so they sold the instant she listed them.
Even the ones she priced high took a little time but sold out eventually.
"Never dreamed I'd see this much coin piled up in my lifetime."
With this haul, she could snag some solid items or gear.
"Got two weapons already, so let's check out equipment."
No need for accuracy or raw power boosters...
"Oh, here to help?"
Come to think of it, full-grown entities were supposed to aid their Contractors' growth. The Administrator wasn't full-grown, but it was still her sponsormight as well get some assistance.
"Whoa, as expected of the Administrator. Different from the others."
Unlike them, being the System Administrator meant it could open and close her shop window remotely. No effort requiredsuper convenient.
"Done already?"
The Administrator, done pondering, displayed a few items.
"Necklace with stealth effect. Perfect for a ranged dealer like me."
Heat could switch between close and long range freely, but hiding from enemies would be handy in all sorts of ways.
"This one's agility-focused."
The second was an anklet with a small winged pendant.
"Haste skill for explosive speed burst, plus agility boost sub-option? Damn, that's solidbut pricey."
Great for a versatile close-and-long-range dealer, but the sub dragged the price above the stealth necklace.
"Eh, time to play rich girl."
Just two accessories, and her coin balance had taken a noticeable hit. Still, stealth was a must for hiding her identity, so she'd soothe the regret here.
After checkout, the two items dropped from the shop. Yoon Se-ra equipped them right away. The anklet made her feel lighter already, thanks to the agility buff.
She stroked the necklace around her neck, her mouth stretching into a goofy grin.
I'm wearing A-rank gear now! Free rein in the high-tier shop!
"Status upgrade, status upgrade."
The little citizen awakened to the joys of shopping, humming a merry tune as she dove back into browsing.
"Huh?"
Then, as if manipulated by the Administrator, a new item floated up.
A sleek black jacket with sharp designbig pockets and a waist belt, perfect for stashing gear.
"Totally badass. Looks like it belongs in a fashion mag, but it's combat-ready? Stealth skill equipped, basic defense, halves same-class attack damage, and when HP drops below 20%, attack power doubles for 10 minutes... Huh?"
Did I just see that right? Stealth and defense asidewhat? Halves damage from same-class attacks?
"So, basically, sniper-class attacks barely touch me?"
"Holy shit!"
Insane. Absolutely insane. Cheat-level ability.
Snipers and rangers were rarer than mages or swordsmen. But their burst damage was higher, so halving that was a massive merit.
In other words, wearing this meant no need to fear enemy snipers targeting her, no matter where she was. And that wasn't all.
"Sub-option doubles attack power."
It required dropping below 20% HP, but that just meant a chance to obliterate foes right before dying. No better item for a Hunter.
"Jackpot!"
High-tier shops sell stuff this broken! Wow, things you never see in low shops are everywhere here.
Giggle. Yoon Se-ra burst into delighted laughter as she checked the jacket's price.
Name: Jacket of Revival (L-rank)
Type: Equipment
Unique Trait: Halves attack effects from the same class as the wearer.
Sub-Ability: When HP falls below 20%, attack power doubles for 10 minutes.
Price: 80 billion coins
"..."
What did I just see?
"E-e-e-e-eigh..."
She rubbed her eyes over and over, but the info window didn't change.
"...80 billion?"
Made sense price-wise given the rank and stats.
But still, this was ridiculous.
"I only made 20 million coins from selling loot today..."
Even most S-ranks couldn't afford it.
Sure, if she reported her rank change to the nation and grinded hard, she might save up someday... But she couldn't stomach the hassle just for one jacket.
Yoon Se-ra suddenly felt endlessly depressed.
"Administrator, why show me something like this and make me sad? Waaah. 80 billion coins isn't some random dog's name. Waaah. I want it, waaah. But I'm broke, waaah."
Yoon Se-ra buried her face in the bed and wailed.
I want it. I want it so bad. That broken L-rank jacketI need it.
With that OP trait, I'd have zero regrets...
"Sniffle sniffle sniffle sniffle."
Yoon Se-ra stroked the impeccably designed L-rank jacket on screen. She couldn't touch it for real, but this was close enough.
"Once I earn 80 billion coins, I'll come buy you... Don't sell till then. Okay? Stay put. Don't sell for anyone else... for me."
Sniffling through her red nose, Yoon Se-ra exited the shop. She'd been thrilled buying those two accessories moments ago, but now her mood had flipped.
She swallowed her tears and wriggled under the covers.
"Waaah."
A pitiful sob leaked out.
But at that message, Yoon Se-ra could only shove her face deeper into the blanket.
"Laughing? That's too much! You hardly ever laugh hard enough to affect the system! How can you laugh at a time like this?!"
In that brief moment, her youthful face was a mess of tears and snot.
Laughing at my pain!
"You're the worst, for real!"
"...Huh?"
Wiping her tears, Yoon Se-ra's eyes went wide at the new message.
One and only Contractormeaning herand the Administrator cherished her?
"...You liked seeing me cry that much?"
Yoon Se-ra glared at the empty air.
