Chapter 117
Civil Servant Hunter’s S-class Resignation Log – Chapter 117
* * *
Yoon Se-ra seized the opening while the dragon's heads were fixated on the angels and started climbing from the tail up its body. The rough, bumpy scales made it effortless.
She paused near where the necks split off and closely examined the heads spewing fire.
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
Each color symbolizing the rainbow carried its own sin. Now, where might who be trapped?
"Ah, it was definitely the orange head, right?"
"The sin of wrath is truly so delectable it quenches one's thirst for a moment."
Seong Ja-rim. She must be trapped in the sin of wrath right now.
Wrath. Where could Seong Ja-rim have accumulated a sin so intoxicating even Satan called it delectable? She was surely lost in illusions of Vaskar. In that case, she had to slice off that orange head right away and set her free.
Se-ra swung her whip wide toward the orange head's neck, wrapping it tightly, then began climbing up.
The beast shook its head violently, sensing the tickle like an ant, but she leaped down holding the whip. Using the centrifugal force, she spun a full circle before landing squarely on top of its head.
The angels around her gasped in shock at how someone without wings could pull off such a reckless stunt.
The scorching heat from Michael's sword brushed her cheek. Dropping right into the heart of the battlefield would be fatal even for her. Se-ra drew her sword from her inventory.
It looked nothing like a standard sword. The blade wasn't sleek but hooked like a sicklethis was one of the two items she'd pried from America.
As she channeled mana into it, the blade began to glow red-hot. This was its unique property; Se-ra had undergone grueling training before entering the labyrinth just to master this technique.
"This should do..."
Enough to pierce the dragon's hide, right?
She thrust the sword down through the crimson crown. Unable to withstand the fierce mana of an L-rank awakener, the crown shattered with a crack. The flaming blade pierced through, embedding into the head.
The dragon shrieked deafeningly, thrashing its head wildly. But Se-ra poured all her strength into the embedded sword, holding firm, so her body didn't budge. With the blade's hooked shape, there was no worry of it slipping out.
Securing herself, she unleashed a frenzy of bullets at the horn remaining beneath the shattered crown.
"Give me back my friend right now, you rotten bastard."
Seong Ja-rim was probably lost in some twisted illusion again. Maybe endlessly reliving those wretched hundred years in that bastard's Vaskar. What if the 'Path of Sin' ended up breaking her mind?
"I won't allow that."
Seong Ja-rim suited nothing better than bumbling around with that clueless grin. So hand over my friend already, you damn dragon spawn.
She'd barely snapped the horn and dented it when the beast poured mana in to regenerate.
"Oh? Regenerating, are we?"
As if she'd let it? Se-ra holstered Heat, reverting the whip coiled around the dragon's neck back into a flail. Then she hammered down on its head like a maniac.
Shatter, shatter! Break already!
[! You filthy pest! I'll kill you! Rip you limb from limb and burn you alive!]
"Shut up. Sin of wrath? What bullshit. The real sinner is the one who enraged that sweet girl. Destroying a whole planet? That's on the bastard who pissed her off. The sin belongs to him, not my friend. So give her back now!"
Boom! The flail, unable to withstand Se-ra's mana clashing with the dragon's, finally shattered. Along with the fragments, the ten horns crumbled to glittering dust scattering in the air.
The sparkling dust drifting away was almost beautiful. Se-ra smirked, grabbing the rampaging head and yanking the sword free by force. The dragon howled in agony.
Without even wiping the blood splattered on her cheek, she snapped her fingers, and a red cube enveloped the head. Time to finish it off completely.
Drawing Heat from its holster again, Se-ra pressed the muzzle against the cube encasing the head. Her trait was sniper. No matter the gun, her abilities peaked with a sniper rifle.
She poured mana into the bullet and pulled the trigger.
Kwaaaang!
A massive inferno erupted inside the cube. The dragon thrashed even more violently than when its crown and horn had broken.
The other six heads lunged at Se-ra, but Michael and the angels blocked them all. Thanks to that, she could focus solely on the orange head.
"This should do it, right?"
As the flames died down, the charred black head emerged. Se-ra gripped her sword and leaped high.
She wasn't a swordsman, so she had zero insight into sword auras, the pinnacle of swordsmanship. She couldn't even produce sword ki.
But she was L-rank, dubbed the world's strongest. Pour in enough mana, and she could mimic a fraction of that realm.
"Fall."
Red mana extended long from the red-hot sword tip. 1m, 2m, 3m... enough to sever the dragon's head in one stroke.
Her sword sliced through the charred neck.
At the long-awaited message, Se-ra grinned joyfully and reached out. The cube containing the severed head flew to her side. Along with her friend's liberation, she plummeted toward the ground.
[You bastard! I won't forgive you!]
The dragon, wrath at its peak, swatted away an angel and whipped its tail at Se-ra.
"Damn it, that's too much!"
How was she supposed to dodge barehanded the destructive power that could shatter a third of a star? Even flying away, she'd need to minimize the impact. She was about to use the cube with the dragon head for defense.
"Huh?"
Suddenly, her body jerked upward, floating into the air. The attack missed, and the dragons shrieked.
"Kang Se-jun?"
Incredibly, Kang Se-junwho knew when he'd awakenedhad swept her into his arms and was flying away. Today of all days, she was getting carried by strange men left and right.
"Looks like you weren't trapped too long, but you've already cut off one head?"
Kang Se-jun peeked into the cube following Se-ra and clicked his tongue. Even with Michael, the mortal enemy of dragons, present, how had she done it so quickly?
"Wasn't that hard. Anyway, what happened? I didn't get a message saying you were liberated."
"I forcibly shattered the space to escape."
"I thought the only ways to break it were destroying the horn or fully cleansing the sin."
"Someone partially destroyed the horn for me, which wrecked the space."
"What? So you were the one trapped in the sin of greed?"
"Yeah."
While the angels held off the dragon, Se-ra landed safely with Kang Se-jun and inspected him all over.
"I thought that sin suited you the least, but surprisingly it fits. You okay? Mind all there? No resurfacing traumas or anything?"
If Seong Ja-rim couldn't shake off Vaskar, Kang Se-jun still carried his pre-regression life inside him. Who knew if what he'd seen this time was related too? Se-ra examined him carefully.
"What if I'm not?"
His sullen reply came with a slightly pale face. Poor guy. Se-ra patted his shoulder sympathetically.
"You're fine. Hold on tight to your sanity. Whatever you saw, it wasn't real, so forget it. Even if it's hard, try to let it go."
She meant it as comfort, but Kang Se-jun stared blankly at her and let out a hollow laugh.
"Why? See something else?"
"...No. Yeah. It wasn't real. Couldn't happen, wouldn't happen. Right."
"Hey, Kang Se-jun. You sure you're really okay?"
"...Yoon Se-ra, can I hold you? Just once?"
His sudden words made Se-ra's eyes widen.
In this situation? With angels spilling blood to block the pissed-off dragons for her sake? When she needed to rush back to the battlefield any second?
But the words didn't leave her mouth. Before she knew it, Kang Se-jun had gently taken her hand. As if appraising something precious, oh so carefully.
It felt like a smack to the head.
"Was what you saw in the illusion something about me?"
"Why do you have to be so sharp and figure out stuff you don't need to know?"
He frowned, released her hand, and turned away. Se-ra hurriedly grabbed his arm.
"For real? Why'd you have to see something like that? One person seeing weird illusions is enough with Team Leader Do."
"You think I wanted to see it? Anyway, like you said, it was an illusion, so no need to keep it in my head. You've cut off one head, so five left. We need to rescue them all..."
Kang Se-jun's words trailed off. Se-ra had reached out, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. Suddenly enveloped in her embrace, his eyes widened.
Thump thump. The first thing he felt was the warm body heat and heartbeat he'd never sensed in the illusion.
"There there. Scared I was dead? I'm not deadI'm alive and kicking, smashing dragon heads with my flail, so no worries."
She patted his back and shoulders a couple times before pulling away to meet his gaze.
No longer the face cursing him from a pool of blood, but a bright smile greeted him.
"Haha. Still, knowing you worried that much feels nice. I won't die. I've got multiple lives tied to this body, and even without that, tons of things I want to do, so no dying. You, the regressordon't even think about it. We're seeing this through to the end."
She hugged him tightly once more. As the cube with the dragon head settled beside them, she kicked it irritably. When it vanished, she stomped where the head had been.
After venting like that a few times, she spotted Seong Ja-rim stirring far off and dashed toward her.
Normally, he'd have laughed at the sight. And flown off to slay the dragon immediately.
But he stood rooted like a statue. He just stared blankly at Se-ra's receding back.
Thump thump, thump thump. Even after she left, the heartbeat transmitted through their brief contact lingered here still.
