Of course, they didn't vanish.
They still circle around you. As echoes haunting the edges of your cradle, as pairs of eyes watching from beneath your bed, as malice spreading on the tongues of countless crowds beneath the sun.
If the world is a vast plank that you could flip over just once, you'd witness the teeming masses clinging to its underside. Though some couldn't even imagine it.
And so, you still live in fear.
They once led me into the light.
