I Became an Angel Girl
I became an angel. I became a girl. A girl with platinum blonde hair and beautiful eyes that shine like emeralds.
If that's where it ended, it would've been great.
But there was a problem.
"Why a body like this..."
A yellow halo was floating idly above my head, now that I'd become a girl, and tiny wings had sprouted on either side of me. The classic angel look everyone talks about.
I pinched my cheek hard, trying to deny reality.
"Ugh..."
All I got back was the stinging pain in my cheek.
Forced to admit it was real amid the pain—not a dream—I felt tears prickling at the corners of my eyes as I flopped onto the bed. I rolled around, burying myself under the covers.
Part-time job? Yeah, no way I could go today. Or ever, until I figured out how to deal with this halo bobbing above my head. Stepping outside was impossible.
I slapped a pale white hand to my forehead and pondered how I was supposed to live from here on out.
If I couldn't work my part-time gig right away, my livelihood was toast. I had some savings, sure, but not enough to last over a year.
"Hmm..."
As I clutched my head, racking my brain, a brilliant idea suddenly hit me.
If I'd become a girl... a girl with a face this pretty...
Why not just do internet streaming?
The halo, wings, and unreal looks might raise eyebrows, sure.
But this is the age of advanced tech. I could just say it's all CG and brush off the questions.
"This... is it!"
Elated at the hope of not starving, I hopped onto my banking app right away.
Balance: about 5 million won. Not bad—enough for decent streaming gear if I didn't splurge on the absolute top-tier stuff.
After checking, I dove into an online shopping site. I added all the cost-effective gear hyped up in internet communities to my cart one by one.
All set.
Tiny one-room apartment.
"Argh... damn it..."
I struggled to unpack gear from boxes bigger than me, prepping for the stream.
My current PC couldn't handle broadcasting, so I hooked up the power supply from the brand-new custom rig I'd ordered. Connected the monitor and HDMI cable.
Googled my way through installing the mic and slapped on a webcam rumored to have solid quality.
Finally, I logged into the streaming platform. Heart pounding, I hit the "Go Live" button.
My stunning face filled the screen instantly. Even I had to admit—no way this look wouldn't blow up.
I pictured a bright future: crushing it on streams, saving up enough to live off forever. Grinning, I set the title.
Angel Chat Room
"Angel Chat Room" as the title? No one would question the look too hard. They'd just assume it's a themed stream with CG effects.
Everything ready, I switched from private to public.
> helloanomaly11 has joined the stream. Wave and say hi!
A viewer popped in right away. Surprised but polite, I bowed my head with a smile.
"Hi there!"
No chat from the viewer despite my greeting. Their ID was still in the participant list, though.
Felt kinda awkward greeting thin air.
The silent viewer finally chatted. Phew, not ditching already.
I beamed back happily.
"Yep!"
First viewer zeroing in on the wings and halo, as expected. I rolled with my prepared response.
"Yup, 'cause I'm an angel!"
Any waffling would raise flags. Better to own it boldly—they'd chalk it up to stream concept.
This streaming world was flooded with wild gimmicks; no one would buy it as real if I acted confident.
But this first viewer was sharper than I thought. Suspicious that the halo and wings were legit, not cosplay.
"Ah... nope!"
What the heck!
Some kinda shaman? How could they be so sure just from a quick glance through the screen?
We're screwed...
Sad to waste the gear, but time to bail for today. If they actually called the cops, trouble.
Cops would probably laugh off a "real angel streaming" report as a prank, but what if they checked in person?
Halo and wings busted.
"Ahem... that's it for today."
No need to give them ammo—I dropped an end-stream message and reached for the shutdown.
The mystery viewer dropped a cryptic line.
"What... is with this guy..."
Feeling uneasy, I shut down the PC and bolted to my safe haven: bed.
Time for a nap under the covers—my ultimate sanctuary.
Hugging my precious pillow tight, I tried to drift off.
Thud thud thud thud.
A massive helicopter roar echoed from outside.
Helis flew by sometimes, so I squeezed my eyes shut, ignoring it.
Thud thud thud thud...
But it wasn't fading. No helipad around here—what gives?
Figured locals would complain. I grabbed my wireless earbuds, popped 'em in for noise cancellation, and planned to sleep through the discomfort.
Then.
Clack clack.
Heli blades whirring, plus footsteps in the hallway?
No way...
Bad vibes rising. Just in case, I decided to grab a weapon.
Heading for the dusty baseball bat in the corner.
Crash!
Suddenly, movie-level action: Guys in cyberpunk gear rappelling down, smashing through the window.
Glass shards flying, four men dropped in, snapping into position, guns trained on me.
And it didn't stop there.
BOOM!
The front door exploded inward with a deafening blast.
More guys poured through the breach, weird guns at the ready, surrounding me.
Super trained—no chatter, just seamless positioning.
They glared with deadly intent.
Honestly... I was terrified. A lot.
"..." "..."
Silence hung between us for a moment.
The leader-looking guy pressed a finger to his earpiece.
Anomaly? What's that?
Containment?
I don't have COVID. Or the flu...
They're speaking Korean, but I can't parse a word. I was top-grade in language, though.
"Anomaly-1004. Please refrain from unnecessary resistance."
He gazed at me, whispering soothingly like a zookeeper calming a beast. Pulled a cube from his pocket.
Beat-up thing—missing pieces, paint chipped, like someone rage-quit solving it.
He advanced slowly, cube in hand.
What the hell is happening...
Clueless, all I could do was want to cry.
