The Taste of Yass
Yass.
Diamond hands.
Short for holding the fuck on forever.
Even people who never touch stocks know it without fail.
If you don't know, better state your name and rank. North Korean style.
It's that famous an investment method(?).
But surprisingly, institutions can't use this strategy.
Why?
The literal meaning.
Diamond hands means you don't move the money.
There's the opportunity-cost problem.
Whether it turns into porridge or rice, you have to keep it rolling.
The ones that turn into porridge get cut in the securities industry.
That's why traders have short lifespans.
I don't know how long the bastard who sniped me will last.
Of course my own money gets tied up too.
Opportunity cost matters for individual traders as well.
But my job is—
"Hmm."
"What are you staring at so hard?"
"Sometimes I feel like this shit is actually worth doing."
"?"
She's a student.
Despite appearances, I show up to class without fail.
Though I never listen.
I use the time for trading.
Major classes start at nine.
Exactly when the market opens.
I come early, crack open the laptop, and trade right there in the lecture hall.
Professors leave us completely alone, so it works.
I even bought the laptop with stock money.
"What did you just buy?"
"Yass."
"What's that? Isn't that sexual harassment?"
"……."
Sora jumps to the most ridiculous conclusions.
She glares at me with those sharp eyes.
My usual behavior.
For someone as inexperienced as Sora, it would be uncomfortable.
But not this time.
It's a real stock.
Listed on the KOSDAQ, no less.
"A man's stock—Yass! You don't know Yass?"
"I know Heungkuk, though."
It's a proper company.
Getting listed at all means it's not some complete nobody.
Of course that's not why I bought it.
Everyone has a stock that just fits them.
I've made money more often than not whenever I bought this one.
For me, that's Yass.
Call it a jinx, or call it knowing the company well.
"It's an OLED-related stock? Says they make deposition equipment……."
"You're really dense."
"What?"
"Yass is just a feeling. You do it by feel."
Would you check occupation, income, and background before doing Yass?
That kind of shit is for the dish-washing nice guys.
And she really is dense.
Just looking at her, you can tell she's inexperienced.
Sora doesn't understand the true value of Yass.
"Buy some once."
"Why should I?"
"Seeing is believing!"
"Ah, fine. Then I'll buy just a little. Just a little."
You have to try Yass to know.
Until you do, you just spin every wild fantasy.
It's dirty, or whatever.
Hygiene this, hygiene that.
In my experience, those types end up the messiest.
She buys Yass.
Saying "buy Yass" carries a whiff of conditions or sponsorship, but it's nothing like that.
"You really……."
"What? I bought exactly what you told me to."
"With Yass you always buy in units of 69, 74, 892."
"Why?"
With Sora's personality she wouldn't have known what Yass even was.
I can guess where she learned it.
She saw it on the community site I recommended.
But she still doesn't know the important part.
It's not a joke.
In Buddhism they do 108 bows to cut off worldly desires.
Christianity has twelve apostles.
A dozen pencils is twelve, a carton of cigarettes is ten packs, a tray of eggs is thirty.
Same with Yass.
Romance.
The act you want to do.
If you pour your wish into it, even if it never reaches the heavens—
—it can still reach the buyers.
Nameless, ageless strangers answer the call.
We are the world!
A fresh big-breasted college girl just bought in, so of course.
Not that she knew and took a photo or anything.
"Wow—wow, it's shooting up!"
"Sell. Fast. Short-term spike."
"Okay, sell."
The price rising is fact.
Not some insane fortune, but decently juicy.
All in the space of a single minute.
Market sell, so roughly fifty thousand in profit.
Fifty thousand in one minute. Hourly rate three million.
Of course you can't calculate it that simply, but it feels damn good.
Money just copying itself?
Making it with Yass feels twice as good.
Whenever something pisses me off, I buy Yass.
"Yeah!"
"Yeah!"
"What's 'Yeah'?"
"There's such a thing."
"This is the taste of doing Yass. Got it?"
Sora, tasting the real flavor of Yass for the first time, shouts without realizing it.
First rush of pleasure.
It will echo through every sensitive corner of her body.
And as she honestly lets the feeling out—
"Ahem!"
The professor clears his throat.
At his age, maybe respiratory trouble.
No—he clearly noticed us.
I don't care, but Sora still carries the model-student image.
"Yass?"
"No way……."
"Did they watch porn in class?"
Korean students have a weird habit of side-eyeing anyone who breaks the flow of a lecture.
Gazes pour in.
What the hell is going on.
Sora finally understands a beat late and her face turns bright red.
"Looks like a lot of students are interested in Sora's Yass."
"What are you talking about!"
"What do you mean? You were just watching Yass."
":#&#@^#!"
Fresh reaction after a long dry spell.
As expected, Sora is still on the dense side.
Anyway.
University life.
Lately it's become enjoyable.
Teasing Sora is fun, and the club is starting to yield its own harvests.
Still a small club, but we can grow it.
If there's one regret—
University.
Any commotion inside a department gets inflated no matter what.
"Did you hear?"
"If you just say 'that,' I don't know……."
"Sora. You know—Yoon Sora!"
Even more so when it concerns a celebrity.
No one in the department doesn't know Sora, the freshman valedictorian.
Outstanding grades.
Striking looks.
Even bold ambitions for her goals.
The very picture of a model student.
And that girl changed a little?
"She watched porn during class, apparently."
"Sora……?"
"Come on, no way."
"It's true. Not just one or two people heard it!"
Enough to become department gossip.
Considering her usual image, impossible.
But there's no smoke without fire.
It's an incident with actual witnesses.
"That senior must have egged her on."
"Definitely."
"Why is Sora hanging out with that weird senior lately?"
There had been signs.
Recently her social circle had undergone a dramatic shift.
Lee Chanuk.
He flipped the economics professors upside down.
A few students follow him, but—
"He's good at stocks, right?"
"How do you even know if he's actually good?"
"True. Could just be a bluffer who talks a big game."
"Looks like a slippery bastard."
The absolute majority of students simply cannot feel goodwill toward him.
Korean society is conservative.
Clear hierarchy, rigid rank order inside any group.
He flouts those principles right in front of everyone.
Even if you have ability, you get ostracized.
Chanuk's reputation being absolute garbage was inevitable.
"They might be dating."
"No way."
"Why no way? Then are they watching porn together without dating?"
Being close to someone like Chanuk also stains Sora's image.
Juha was never one to miss that kind of opening.
Every bitch prettier than me should just die.
She doesn't act out like Hye-ri.
Personality's cool, doesn't chase guys either.
But just existing like that is hateful enough.
Like a pure white snowfield fallen in midwinter.
"Rumors are just rumors."
"I take the same class."
"Really?"
"Right next to her."
"Then you saw the whole thing?!"
She wants to step on her.
Wants to scratch her up and drag her down to the same level.
Petty jealousy.
She knows it herself, yet it still grates that a girl who studies well and was born pretty is popular.
Actually I was diagonal so I couldn't see, but.
The atmosphere is already set.
The other girls are thinking the same thing inside.
They were just waiting to see who would start first.
She breaks the ice.
"You know what Yass means, right?"
"What does it mean?"
"I don't know either."
"Ah, so some of you don't know. What it means is—"
A sexual gesture.
Making a ring with thumb and index finger and thrusting another finger in and out—everyone knows what that means.
Sure enough, the reactions flip.
With a smile of pure satisfaction, Juha smoothly continues the backbiting.
"They must have whispered thinking no one would know."
"Seems like it!"
"They really must be dating."
"What a surprise. Didn't know Sora was that kind of girl."
"Usually the ones who look like they wouldn't do it are the ones doing more behind the scenes~."
Success.
Whether it's true or not doesn't matter.
Backbiting like this is really just to confirm whose side people are on.
Jisu, Daeun, Chaeun—confirmed.
Sufficient harvest.
Now inflate the rumor around the girls whose sides are locked in.
Pathetic bitches.
Juha's little group.
Their voices are so loud they reach even Suhyun, sitting in the very front row of the lecture hall.
She had picked electives she liked and ended up in the same class by accident.
Their gossip always grates on her.
Click, click.
Laptop.
Just searching Naver is enough.
She types "Yass" and hits enter once.
Not even a porn site—just a company.
A stock company.
Sora had only been talking about stocks.
The company name is a bit suggestive, though.
Not a name you shout in school.
Something the usual Sora would never do.
She changed after hanging around Chanuk.
Whether that's a good direction or a bad one, Suhyun doesn't know.
Is stocks really that fun?
It was the first time she had seen cool, collected Sora light up like an elementary schooler.
A girl who had zero interest in anything except studying.
Sora, who had been living the most boring life possible.
Suhyun had thought they were the same kind of person, carrying the same quiet worries.
