Assistant Manager Kim Mihui! I Said I Can't Do It. Why? Something Wrong?
"Sihyun. Wake up for a second. The Executive Director is calling for you."
That voice belonged to Deputy Manager Seonghyeon.
Ah, so Deputy Manager Seonghyeon came in to work too.
I slowly opened my eyes and looked up at him with a dazed expression.
"Sihyun, sorry to bother you while you're resting. Executive Director Lee Eunwoo wants you to come see him right now."
"Ah, yes......."
I got up from my seat and headed for Executive Director Lee Eunwoo's office.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
"Who is it?"
"Yu Sihyun, sir."
"Ah, yes. Come in."
Creeeak.
I opened the door and stepped inside. The Executive Director was standing there with a warm, gentle smile.
"Sihyun, how has work been treating you lately?"
"Thanks to your consideration, sir, I've been doing just fine."
"Oh, come now, what consideration? Having a superstar working at our company is an honor for us."
In the entire company, Executive Director Lee Eunwoo was the only one who knew my true identity. That was why he went out of his way to accommodate me. Whenever I had a packed schedule as a celebrity, he quietly processed it as an external assignment and smoothed everything over for me.
"So what did you need me for today, sir?"
"Ah, nothing major. You know the company's about to go through a personnel reshuffle, right?"
Even someone as uninterested in company affairs as me knew that much. The female deputy managers on our team were already stressed out of their minds over the reshuffle. Word was a wave of layoffs was about to sweep through.
"Yes, sir. I'm aware."
"Right. So the truth is, I wanted to ask you for a favor. I know you're busy, but I think you're the one who can evaluate our employees most objectively. And since you're a regular staff member rather than an executive, you're closer to the other employees, aren't you?"
"Sorry? What do you mean?"
"Well, we can handle the work performance evaluations ourselves, of course. But evaluating things like an employee's character, or the more personal aspects outside of pure work—that's genuinely difficult for us. So I was hoping you could put together an evaluation report on our staff covering everything beyond their actual job duties. Like the company's own Secret Royal Inspector, you know? Haha. Does that sound a little too grand? Anyway, that's how much I trust you, and that's the level of authority I want to give you. Honestly, there's no one else in this company who can evaluate the staff as objectively as you can, free of any factional ties. I'm really counting on you."
Haa.
Truthfully, I wanted to refuse. Evaluating the character of the entire staff? That was way too much for me. But Executive Director Lee Eunwoo had clearly arrived at this decision after a great deal of thought. Given how much consideration he showed me in so many ways, turning him down was hard. I'll just give every employee a glowing review. Whatever.
"Ah, yes. Understood, sir. I'm not sure how well I'll do, but I'll give it a try."
"Oh my, I can't thank you enough. You've taken a huge weight off my mind. Thank you, Sihyun. If anything ever gives you trouble, come to me anytime. All right?"
"Yes, sir. I understand."
I bowed politely to the Executive Director and trudged back toward the Development Business Team.
What am I supposed to be, becoming the company's Secret Royal Inspector and evaluating the staff? Seriously...... Executive Director Lee Eunwoo can be oddly whimsical sometimes.
I returned to the Development Business Division. Whether they were still in a meeting or not, the floor was completely empty. I pulled my hoodie back up over my head and slumped face-down across my desk.
Haa. Have I been pushing myself too hard lately? No matter how much I sleep, I'm still exhausted. Well, I've been running on about three hours of sleep a night, so...... I just want to keep resting like this for a while. In this peaceful place......
Present-Day Yu Sihyun — Company Rooftop
"So what you're saying, Noona, is that I spent almost the entire morning face-down on my desk without doing any work? And I didn't even attend the morning meeting?"
"Yeah. You really don't remember? You're not seriously hurt, are you?"
"Ah, well. The injury itself isn't a big deal. More importantly—what kind of work was I actually doing? I looked through the folders on my computer this morning and there's nothing but the simplest tasks. I have no idea what part of the workload I was originally responsible for."
"The work Sihyun used to do? Just shooting promotional videos as the company model once a quarter, and serving as the in-house model. Beyond that, helping out the other team members whenever you felt like it. Honestly, Sihyun, you're assigned to Development on paper, but you barely do anything related to our actual division. Creating a whole separate department just for you would've been a bit much, so Executive Director Lee Eunwoo stuck you with us instead. Are you sure you didn't hit your head really hard? If you can't even remember the work you used to do...... isn't that serious? Did you go to the hospital?"
"Ah, yes. The hospital said it was nothing major. Temporary memory loss."
Ugh. Lying about it pricks my conscience a little, but I can't think of any other way.
"Okay. Still, be careful. There could be side effects."
"Yes, Noona. Oh, and do you happen to know who JYK is?"
Deputy Manager Miyoung shook her head firmly, looking completely blank.
"Hmm. No idea at all......"
As expected, finding any leads about the otherworld Yu Sihyun's secret chat room through Deputy Manager Miyoung was going to be difficult.
"Got it, Noona. Never mind that. You know our conversation today is a secret just between you and me, right? If the other team members find out, things get messy. I told you because I trust you the most."
The line about trusting her the most seemed to put Deputy Manager Miyoung in a good mood. She answered brightly.
"Yeah. Of course. Don't worry. I won't tell a soul."
"All right. You head down first, Noona. I'll come down a little later. If we go down together, those other bitches might get weird ideas."
"Okay, got it. But...... I always thought Sihyun got along well with the rest of the team. Guess not?"
"I got along well with the other team members?"
Hmm. Well, if it was the otherworld Yu Sihyun and the otherworld team members, maybe they did get along. In a gender-reversed world, Yu Sihyun might have been doted on by his teammates and lived an easy company life. Looking at this world's Deputy Manager Miyoung alone, she doesn't seem like a bad person. The others probably weren't either.
But the Yu Sihyun standing here now is a completely different person from the old one. Same exterior, totally different core. And the other team members—except for Deputy Manager Miyoung—are the same way. I don't know what brought them into this world as possessors. But I'm going to pay them back thoroughly for everything they did, and I'm going to break them in. I have to. That's the only way I get to stay in this world. I never want to go back to that hellish Dog Korea. Not ever.
"Well, maybe we did. Anyway, don't worry about it, Noona. Just keep a close eye on the other team members and report back to me. You know that's how you survive the upcoming personnel reshuffle, right?"
"Huh? Y-yeah. Don't worry, Sihyun. I'm heading down, then. Ask me anytime if something comes up. Take care of yourself......"
I watched Deputy Manager Miyoung walk away and sank into my own thoughts.
So the Yu Sihyun of this world held a free-floating position in the Development Business Division. Free enough that he could sleep at his desk and no one said a word...... According to Deputy Manager Miyoung, my desk is in Development, but my actual job is company promotional model. And how often does modeling work even come up? I'd only get busy when they shoot a promo video or put together the company newsletter. Maybe play face man at the occasional company conference? Meaning the rest of the time, I just space out and handle the odd bit of busywork when I'm bored. A total cushy post.
Haa. My position at this company is night and day compared to the original world's Yu Sihyun. Back there I was a goddamn new hire who had to cover every single task. Though thanks to that, I more or less know what everyone else's work looks like.
So how do I use this position to torment and break in those fucking team bitches even harder? In a way, having no fixed duties might make it even easier to mess with them. I'll hang around, get under their skin, and tighten the noose until those bitches snap and go off on their own.
Once I settled on that plan, the company suddenly felt like it was going to get a lot more fun. A smile tugged at the corner of my mouth.
Ding!
I took the elevator back down to the Development Business Division. The team members were hard at work on their assigned tasks. Assistant Manager Mihui shot me a cautious look and came over.
"Sihyun, you're not doing anything right now, are you? We need to organize the storage room, and that used to be your job. You can handle it, right?"
Kim Mihui, you fucking bitch. Still a total brain-dead case with zero learning ability. The Yu Sihyun who cleaned storage rooms was the original world's Yu Sihyun. This is a gender-reversed world. I was getting bored anyway—perfect timing. All right, you fucking bitch. Let's play a little.
"Organize the storage room? Let's go together for now."
"Okay, Sihyun. You know the supply storage, right? We have to get everything sorted today. I'll show you how it needs to be organized."
Without another word, I trailed along behind Assistant Manager Mihui.
Click. Click.
Her heels rang out with every step. Today, as always, Assistant Manager Mihui had come to work in expensive designer pumps with heels that looked at least ten centimeters high.
Doesn't that hurt her feet? Seriously. Who wears something like that to the office? Who's even around to impress?
Assistant Manager Mihui and I arrived at the dim supply storage room.
"Sihyun, unpack all the boxes in here and organize the supplies. Stack the heavy stuff down below nice and neat to free up some space. When the water cooler jugs get delivered, take them and move them into whatever room is left. You can finish before lunch, right?"
Crazy bitch. Even the original world's Yu Sihyun would've needed at least three hours for this. What am I, a day laborer? Doing all of that alone would wreck my back.
I stood quietly beside Assistant Manager Mihui and listened to every word. Then I spoke, completely indifferent.
"Ah. That sounds like a lot of work. I can't do it. Good luck, Assistant Manager Mihui. It's going to take you a while to finish all that."
Assistant Manager Mihui stared at me with an expression of pure disbelief.
"Sihyun, what did you just say? Did you just say you can't do it? I didn't mishear that, did I?"
Crazy bitch. Keep throwing your little tantrums. That kind of bullshit only worked in the old Dog Korea. This is the proud gender-reversed Republic of Korea, and it doesn't fly here.
A smile on my lips, I looked Assistant Manager Mihui dead in the eye and folded my arms.
"No, you heard me just fine. I said I can't do it. Why? Something wrong?"
