Teamwork Triumph: Shattering Oman 4-1
Oman came at us with ferocious pressure that made the first half look like a joke. That meant if we just held firm, they'd show tons of gaps. And the one who ripped those gaps wide open was the heart of the national team, Bong Hyeoksu.
Bong grabbed the ball in midfield, shook off the pressure with a silky turn, and then charged forward like a bat out of hell. Two Omani defenders latched onto him, but he bulldozed past them with relentless dribbling, like an 8-ton truck with busted brakes.
We slipped into the open spaces, giving him options. Surging into the gap between defenders, his choice was a pass. The ball left his foot and sailed just over the Omani backline, landing perfectly at my feet.
Perfect chance. No hesitation—I unleashed a powerful non-stop shot with my right foot straight into the keeper's far corner.
RYU RION!
Classic Ryu Rion! Bong Hyeoksu's fantastic breakthrough followed by Ryu Rion's clean finish!
The net bulged like it was about to tear. 3-0.
I bolted straight for the corner flag. Facing the boos from the crowd head-on, I leaped high.
“SIUUUUUUU!”
My roar exploded the moment I landed.
The match turned even more brutal. Oman threw everything forward chasing a goal back, and our defense threw their bodies on the line to stop them.
Then chance fell to Mo Chanhee. He dazzled past three Omani defenders with flashy footwork and broke into the box. Me on the far side. Park Jeongu in the middle. Wide open. A simple nudge and it was a goal.
But Mo Chanhee went for the shot himself.
Thwack!
The ball grazed the keeper's fingertips and sailed wide of the line. Mo Chanhee clutched his head in disbelief and sank to the turf. I shot him a quick tsk. Lucky we were up 3-0. With that lead, folks could spin it as him taking the chance he created.
Oman pounced on the opportunity and launched a counter. The ball rocketed into our box in seconds. The Omani striker's rocket shot!
Oh no, did it go through?! No! The keeper! Super save!
A priceless stop. Jang Kangcheol snatched the rebound with insane focus. He shrugged off a rough charge with his shoulder, protected the ball, and fed it to me right away. Oman swarmed me instantly, but I twisted away, creating space in a flash.
I fired it quick to Park Jeongu breaking forward, but Oman cut it off with team defending and launched a long ball. It dropped right in front of our defense.
Jang Kangcheol stepped up, and Tak Go-gang charged in from behind to clear it.
55th minute. Jang tried building from the back but his side pass under pressure was too short. Oman's striker Al Habshi pounced like a beast and stole it.
“Defense, get out!”
Oman's shot beat my shout. Tak Go-gang dove in desperately, but the low, vicious strike ripped into the corner of the net.
Splash!
Oman pulls one back! 55th minute, 3-1.
Clear lapse in focus. That pass mistake from Jang Kangcheol hurts bad. Is the away pressure finally hitting?
The crowd erupted in frenzy for the Omani goal, but scorer Al Habshi didn't celebrate—no dance, no high-fives. He snatched the ball from the net and sprinted to the center circle. Oman was hell-bent on equalizing fast. We had to stop that momentum.
I positioned at the center circle, eyeing Oman's spaces.
“If we just run the gaps, they'll crack quick.”
Play restarted, and I seized midfield control. As Oman's pressure funneled to me, Mo Chanhee lurked on the left flank, hunting his moment.
I chipped it between two midfielders. The ball arced over the defender and magnetized to Mo Chanhee's instep.
Mo cut inside, nutmegging one defender. Angle opened. His body curved, and his left foot whipped the ball in a banana trajectory.
Mo Chanhee's signature ZD shot.
It curled toward the top corner like it was sucked in. The booth was about to scream “Goal!”
“Gah!”
Oman's keeper flew with unreal reflexes. It clipped his fingertips, hit the bar, and bounced out.
Mo clutched his head, face blank with shock. He stood dazed, gutted by the missed sitter.
At the corner spot, Tak Go-gang took a slow deep breath. He smirked at the jeering crowd like he savored it, raising his right index finger sky-high.
The signal for our set-piece routine.
Whistle blew. Tak's delivery whipped in a vicious arc to the near post. At the peak: blockhead Jang Kangcheol.
He crushed two defenders under his shoulder and soared to absurd height.
Thud!
Header rocketed missile-like to the corner. But Oman's keeper leaped with animal spring and punched it away.
The clearance dropped dead center in the chaos. Amid tangled bodies, Bong Hyeoksu won it first. Instead of forcing a shot, he slid it back to me surging late.
Three Omani defenders rushed me, blocking my angle completely.
But in my line of sight: unmarked Mo Chanhee lurking behind me.
I didn't trap—instead, I spread my legs and let the ball roll straight through.
“...!”
The defenders' eyes widened in horror. Through my legs, perfect to the empty space—and Mo's feet.
Mo just needed to toe-poke it. Tap.
Splash!
Leaving the stunned Omanis behind, Mo sprinted to the corner flag. He slid on his knees, roaring like he was venting the earlier ZD frustration. Looked pretty ridiculous.
After that, the game was all ours. Oman crumbled, spirit broken, and time ticked down.
“Tweeeeeet!”
Final whistle from the ref.
Korea crushes Oman away! Perfect win washes away Palestine regrets.
Bong Hyeoksu-led midfield was world-class today. Silencing Omani fans on their turf—proud!
Middle Eastern night air still scorched, but to us victors, it was just a cool breeze. The scoreboard blazed 4-1.
I wiped sweat and looked skyward. In the end, footballers shine brightest proving it on the pitch.
“See? This is football.”
Post-match mixed zone. Reporters swarmed like flies.
