Chapter 32: Enhancing the Automatic Door

Chapter 32: Enhancing the Automatic Door
Right now, I have nearly 800 Coins.
I've killed about 750 Level 1 Zombies, which give 1 Coin each, and killing humans also awards Coins.
On top of that, even though it's only Level 1, the Sex! Sex! Skill awards Coins every time I have sex with Kim Ji-hee.
It doesn't give a massive amount, but special occasions like oral sex and her first time yielded quite a lot of Coins. To be exact, I have 789 Coins.
Since I didn't have much use for Coins right now other than trading with other users, I had been saving them up. But finally, a place to spend them had appeared.
"I should probably enhance the automatic door, right?"
It was fundamentally sturdy, but that was only against someone pounding on it with their bare hands. If someone actually resolved to break it down, it wouldn't last long.
What I wanted was for the building's entrance to be sturdy enough to withstand being rammed by a car.
Of course, just blocking the entrance wouldn't solve everything.
I also needed to fortify the building's outer walls and windows, but seeing as the system provided a Safe Base-Exclusive Automatic Door, a way to purchase those would surely pop up soon, whether through a quest or a Black Market Dealer.
Until then, I had to make sure the front gate, at least, was heavily fortified.
[Cost to upgrade Safe Base-Exclusive Automatic Door: 20 Coins]
The moment I saw the cost, a curse slipped out of my mouth.
"You motherfucker. Are you ripping me off?"
It wasn't like the door could hear me cursing, but I was dumbfounded.
Of course, since it was a high-performance item, I understood that it would cost a decent amount of Coins.
This Safe Base-Exclusive Automatic Door had options that made it the textbook definition of a "Rare" item. Since it was rare, investing Coins to upgrade it would undoubtedly be worth it.
But 20 Coins just to raise it by a single level was a bit much.
It would be one thing if upgrading this once allowed me to use Level 2 doors everywhere else.
But I had to kill 20 zombies just to raise the level of this single door.
While 20 Coins wasn't a huge sum to me, the real problem lay in what came next.
How many Coins would Level 3 require?
"Ah, screw it."
But what choice did I have? I had to do it.
Once I paid the 20 Coins, the automatic door flashed with light.
"...Is that it?"
On the outside, nothing seemed to have changed.
[Safe Base-Exclusive Automatic Door (★★)]
- A specialized automatic door that can be installed in a Safe Base. When used on an existing doorway, the exclusive automatic door will be installed.
- Can be upgraded using Coins.
- Durability is enhanced. (Bunker level)
However, the description was so generous that it made me feel guilty for cursing at the 20-Coin price tag.
"A bunker? My bad..."
In Zombie Apocalypse, there was such a thing as a bunker.
They weren't scattered all over the place; on the US map, having one or two per server was considered a lot.
According to the lore, these bunkers were built for heads of state to retreat to in emergencies, and they were supposedly impervious even to nuclear blasts.
In fact, some crazy psycho had actually acquired a nuke and detonated it directly on a bunker just to test its durability, then posted proof on the gallery showing that it didn't even have a single scratch.
And that crazy psycho with way too much time on his hands was none other than me.
That was why I could truly appreciate this.
Upgrading a door with the durability of steel to bunker-level for just 20 Coins?
The efficiency was fucking insane.
Suddenly, a thought occurred to me.
"Isn't this way too broken?"
The fact that I was even thinking this proved it was indeed a Safe Base-Exclusive item.
After all, "Cheat Mode" was a term reserved for things that made anyone think, Isn't this fucking broken?
I was itching to upgrade it to Level 3.
[Cost to upgrade Safe Base-Exclusive Automatic Door: 50 Coins]
That's a bit steep.
But since I had plenty of Coins to spare right now, I'd give it one more go.
I needed to upgrade it first to see how far I should take it, so it wasn't a waste.
Besides, even if it cost a lot of Coins, there was no downside to doing it.
[Safe Base-Exclusive Automatic Door (★★★)]
- A specialized automatic door that can be installed in a Safe Base. When used on an existing doorway, the exclusive automatic door will be installed.
- Can be upgraded using Coins.
- Durability is enhanced. (Bunker level)
- Durability automatically recovers by 1 every 10 minutes. (Max Durability: 1,000). Instantly recovers 10 durability per Coin.
"Holy crap. This is insane."
It looked like the entrance to this building wouldn't be breached anytime soon.
Of course, bunker-level durability didn't mean it was completely indestructible.
It just meant it had the defensive power to withstand a nuke; if subjected to continuous damage, even a bunker would eventually breach.
It was just that because it significantly mitigated damage, the durability loss was minimal, and with such a high maximum durability, breaching it was practically impossible.
But now that it even recovered durability automatically, unless someone came with specialized equipment and a serious plan, it would be faster for me to just kill the bastards at the door.
"Talk about reassuring."
I had been a bit anxious about leaving Kim Ji-hee behind with only a Level 1 automatic door to protect her.
If it only had the defense of steel, there were plenty of ways to break through.
But with this, even if I were to leave for days on end, I might die out there, but there was no way Kim Ji-hee inside would die.
Yeah. This is what a real Safe Base should be.
What was the point of having water, electricity, and heating if you had to rely on a pathetic scrap-metal door?
It was useless if it couldn't block outside intrusions.
I had wondered if it made sense to have to defend it manually, but to think I could upgrade it like this.
Since I was already at it, should I try Level 4?
[Cost to upgrade Safe Base-Exclusive Automatic Door: 200 Coins]
"Hmm. I think I can hold off on that for now."
There's a limit to how many Coins I should spend on testing. These bastards really don't know when to stop.
Of course, looking at the Level 2 and 3 options, I doubted they would charge 200 Coins and give me hot garbage, but spending 200 Coins right now was too much of a burden.
I still had 719 Coins left, but I had to save them.
Content that actually required heavy Coin usage hadn't even appeared yet. If I squandered them all just because I had nowhere else to spend them, I might not have any left when I actually needed them.
The automatic door was good enough for now.
It wouldn't be too late to upgrade it later when the need arose.
Having wrapped that up, I slowly began to prepare.
"I should get ready to hunt Level 2s."
Just 2 Points and 300 Coins alone were rewards I absolutely couldn't pass up.
On top of that, a Level 2 item was on the line.
Judging by the Safe Base-Exclusive Automatic Door, my 100,000-Hour Rule gut feeling told me there was a very high chance this would be a rare item.
I had to do this, no matter what.
Besides, since the police station was only a Level 1 Police Station, it wouldn't be that large, and there shouldn't be any Level 3 Zombies, so it was worth a shot.
The 3 Points left behind by those old geezers.
I have to make this count.
"I really want to level up Hunting Expert, though..."
Since I was currently making great use of the visible attack trajectories, I had a high opinion of Hunting Expert.
However, to hunt Level 2 Zombies, overwhelming stats were far more important than that.
If I were fighting inside the Safe Base, of course, there would be no need to raise my stats further.
With all stats at Level 4+, I could easily hunt even Level 2 Zombies like they were Level 1s, as long as I didn't let my guard down.
But outside was a different story.
The extra stats applied to me outside were just one Level 3 Rest Bonus and a Level 1 stat from Predation.
Since Level 2 Zombies basically had all stats at Level 3, and depending on the type of zombie, one or two stats could be a level higher, my current stats were woefully inadequate.
"My choice is already made this time."
I spent 2 Points on the Safe Base to make it Level 5.
And I spent 1 Point on Predation to make it Level 3.
"This is fucking insane."
It was insane in two different ways.
First, it was insane that the Points required to go from Level 5 to Level 6 had increased to 3.
And second, the new options added to Base Invincibility upon reaching Level 5 were absolutely insane.
"Holy shit."
A Server Host was, in reality, just a sucker who opened up a server for others.
Since there was no multiplayer in Zombie Apocalypse, it hadn't mattered, and even with it becoming a multi-server, nothing should have changed.
But the Host of this real-life multi-server was different.
First, it gave me a Host-Exclusive Cheat Mode, and now it was giving me options that would turn the Host into a god.
For other users, whose only way to grow their stats or Modes was to grind and gain experience, I could use my own Coins and Points to forcefully make them stronger.
What kind of fucking broken, overpowered feature was this?
Of course, I didn't have any Points or Coins to spare on others right now.
But once I had some breathing room in the future, my Safe Base would become far more fortified and grand.
