What the Hell Did I Just Do?
Mu Yeonghui had spent the past five days at Ryeonhwa’s house.
It wasn’t as troublesome as she had first feared. In fact, the arrangement wasn’t bad at all.
But there was one strange thing.
“Miss Mu Yeonghui, say ‘ah~’.”
Why is this woman being so clingy with me?
For five whole days, Ryeonhwa had treated Mu Yeonghui with excessive kindness. Today she had even peeled an apple and was trying to feed it to her directly.
“That won’t be necessary.”
“B-but you haven’t had a single sip of water since you arrived five days ago!”
“Didn’t I already tell you that I have no need for the food of the mortal world?”
“Still, just in case… please try a little.”
Mu Yeonghui found Ryeonhwa’s worried expression as she held out the apple rather odd.
If you want me to eat it, just give it to me. Why are you trying to feed me yourself?
She was about to refuse out of sheer discomfort when Ryeonhwa’s phone rang. Only then did the woman set the apple down. After a brief conversation, she turned back to Mu Yeonghui.
“Miss Mu Yeonghui, the team leader is calling us. An anomalous being has appeared. We need to head to the designated location immediately.”
“Where is it?”
“It’s quite far away—an empty lot. It’ll take time to get there. Should I call a taxi?”
When Ryeonhwa, who didn’t even own a car, mentioned taking a taxi, Mu Yeonghui thought for a moment.
I could get there much faster without one. But… would it be okay to touch her body?
“This body shall grant you a speed that renders iron carriages utterly meaningless. However, I require your permission to lay hands upon that delicate frame of yours, fragile as a newborn fledgling.”
The sudden question about touching her made Ryeonhwa’s face flush bright red.
“D-don’t tell me… you’re going to carry me, Miss Mu Yeonghui?”
“It would be faster that way. Or do you find the idea distasteful?”
“It’s not that I dislike it… I’m just a little embarrassed.”
Though she sounded shy, Ryeonhwa didn’t seem genuinely opposed. She cautiously moved closer and wrapped her arms around Mu Yeonghui’s neck.
“Then let us depart. To whatever place you desire.”
“Whoa, this is so fast!”
With Ryeonhwa held securely in her arms, Mu Yeonghui leaped from building to building and reached their destination in the blink of an eye.
“We have arrived.”
“That was… way too fast…”
When Mu Yeonghui carefully set her down, Ryeonhwa couldn’t hide the faint trace of disappointment as she slipped out of her embrace.
The empty lot was already crowded with members of the Anomalous Being Countermeasures Division. But something about the atmosphere felt off.
There were far more people than Mu Yeonghui remembered, and many of the faces were completely unfamiliar.
“Bori, sunbae!”
Ryeonhwa’s eyes widened in surprise when she spotted a woman with a youthful, almost girlish appearance among the crowd.
“Everyone’s finally awake? That’s wonderful!”
“No, it’s really not wonderful at all. So just get over here, now!”
“Huh?”
The abrupt command left Ryeonhwa blinking in confusion.
“Why?”
“The woman standing next to you isn’t human. She’s the disaster-level anomalous being I told you about!”
“Th-that’s ridiculous!”
Ryeonhwa stepped forward angrily, glaring at her colleagues as she shouted.
“I saw with my own eyes how Miss Mu Yeonghui helped people! There’s no way someone like her could be a disaster-level anomalous being!”
“You’re being deceived right now. If you don’t want to die by her hand, get over here immediately!”
“I won’t! Sunbae, you’re the one who’s completely mistaken!”
Ryeonhwa planted herself in front of Mu Yeonghui as if to protect her, launching into a heated argument with her fellow hunters.
Meanwhile, Mu Yeonghui herself could only blink in utter bewilderment.
Why are they suddenly calling me an anomalous being?
The situation had been perfectly fine until this nonsense started. As she studied the crowd, a vague sense of déjà vu washed over her.
That girl named Bori… I feel like I’ve seen her somewhere before.
She searched her memory until the realization hit her like a thunderbolt.
Aaaaaaaaah!!!
In that instant, Mu Yeonghui finally understood the situation.
That’s the woman I knocked out the first time we met, along with her group! So they were members of the Anomalous Being Countermeasures Division! I’m the one who left Ryeonhwa’s colleagues unconscious!
When she had knocked them out, she had made sure they would regain consciousness today. Once they woke up, they would have immediately reported what happened, and the information would have reached Sobeom as well.
She could easily imagine what Sobeom must have thought.
He probably believes the person who took down his subordinates is now pretending to fill the vacancy while secretly laughing at them and even taking payment for it!
It was certainly enough to make him furious and send his men after her. But Mu Yeonghui felt unfairly accused.
How could I have known those people who suddenly started shooting at me were from the Countermeasures Division?
What do I do about this?
She instinctively realized this misunderstanding wouldn’t be easy to clear up.
Still… it is true that I knocked them out. It makes sense for them to mistake me for an anomalous being.
She was still pondering how to resolve the misunderstanding when—
“Hey, miss. If you’re not going to help, at least step aside, yeah?”
“Eek!”
Gyeongun shoved Ryeonhwa aside with a displeased hand and stepped forward to face Mu Yeonghui directly.
“I’ll give you ten seconds. If you want to surrender, now’s your best chance.”
And who the hell is this guy?
Mu Yeonghui stared at Gyeongun with a bored expression as he dared to act arrogantly toward her.
With Gyeongun and Mu Yeonghui now facing off, a nervous new recruit turned to a senior hunter.
“Do you think he can win?”
The one who asked was one of the members who had tried to resign. He had been dragged here against his will and was visibly terrified.
“If even Hunter Lee Gyeongun fails, we’re all dead!”
“Don’t worry. If the opponent really is an anomalous being, that guy won’t lose.”
“How can you be so sure? I know he’s strong, but you’re meeting him for the first time today too, sunbae!”
“No. This isn’t the first time.”
The senior hunter was one of the original members, just like Bori. He had known Gyeongun back before he betrayed the Monghwan City Division.
“I’ve seen him fight several times in the past. That’s when I realized it. If his opponent is an anomalous being, he can’t possibly lose unless it’s disaster-level.”
“Didn’t you used to tell us there’s no such thing as ‘absolute’ when fighting anomalous beings, sunbae?”
When the senior gave advice that contradicted what he had said before, the younger hunter looked at him in confusion. The veteran gave a bitter smile.
“That was for ordinary humans fighting anomalous beings. When it’s a hunter versus an anomalous being, the outcome is decided by the difference in their unique abilities.”
“…Now that you mention it, Hunter Lee Gyeongun’s unique ability isn’t widely known. Is it really that powerful?”
“Why do you think people call him the Natural Enemy of Ghosts?”
“Well… because he catches them so well…”
“If it were that simple, every decent hunter would be called that.”
The senior hunter spoke with clear admiration in his voice.
“Gyeongun’s unique ability, Cheongwae, boasts absolute superiority against anomalous beings. The first effect is immunity.”
“Immunity?”
“Just like how a water-attribute anomalous being can withstand fire. He gains complete resistance to anomalous beings themselves.”
He was about to explain that no attack from an anomalous being could affect him when—
Gyeongun was struck by an invisible force from Mu Yeonghui and sent flying ten meters through the air.
“You said he had immunity?”
“…”
The senior hunter shut his mouth in shock.
“Wh-what the hell just happened?”
Gyeongun himself was the most surprised he had been in years. He let out a hollow laugh as he climbed back to his feet.
“How the hell did you break through my Cheongwae defense?”
“How could one possibly pierce something that does not exist? (Was there even any defense to begin with?)”
Mu Yeonghui answered honestly, having felt no resistance when she attacked. But Gyeongun took it as a taunt.
“Heh heh. You really aren’t an ordinary woman. I don’t know what kind of ability that was, but I’ll seal it right here!”
Gyeongun activated the second power of Cheongwae.
It was the ability to seal the powers of anomalous beings!
The power that could render any ability completely unusable flew toward Mu Yeonghui.
And then Gyeongun was sent flying again, tumbling across the ground.
“Is this the nonsense of a clown? (What has he been babbling about this whole time?)”
Mu Yeonghui looked down at him with an expression of pure disbelief. Gyeongun desperately reached out with his hand.
“I’ll erase your very concept!”
The third ability of Cheongwae.
It was an instant-death technique that erased the conceptual elements that made up an anomalous being—effective only against them.
And yet—
“Guhk!”
It still didn’t work on Mu Yeonghui. Gyeongun was struck once more.
His body trembled violently before going limp. He collapsed, unconscious.
Korea’s strongest hunter had been completely one-sidedly beaten.
“You said it was absolute superiority?”
“Guess… it wasn’t.”
“…Sunbae Bori was right.”
“It’s disaster-level! Run!”
The watching hunters turned deathly pale.
The rookies tried to flee, but the veterans knew it was pointless and simply stood there in stunned silence.
“How peculiar. For a master-level warrior to display such disgraceful behavior. (This is strange. He was definitely at the supreme peak level, so why did he only do weird things and lose?)”
Mu Yeonghui found it strange as well, but the result was only natural.
Cheongwae only worked on anomalous beings.
It was obvious that it would have no effect on Mu Yeonghui, who wasn’t one. But they had no way of knowing that.
Those who, like Bori, were absolutely convinced that Mu Yeonghui was an anomalous being came up with a different theory instead.
“The difference in raw power is just too overwhelming. It’s so great that even the type advantage doesn’t matter… It really is disaster-level. She really is disaster-level!”
Having solidified her misunderstanding even further, Bori shouted desperately.
“Fuck it! I’ll buy time! Everyone, run!”
Resolved to blow herself up if necessary, Bori began gathering every ounce of power she had.
She had already accepted death here, but a miracle occurred.
“Enough. This body has no intention of claiming your pitiful lives. Instead, I shall grant you the honor of a peaceful conversation. You would do well to be grateful.”
The absolute strongest on the field, Mu Yeonghui, chose to request dialogue instead of continuing the fight.
