A Devilish Misunderstanding
The supreme-grade constellation who had sent me a message, the Princess of Frost, was silent for a while. She must have a lot on her mind. I waited patiently for a moment.
As if. I just got caught up in the antics of a ridiculous human.
I maintained my silence. In situations like this, keeping your mouth shut usually prompts the other party to interpret things however they want.
And just as I expected, she began to reconstruct her own interpretation of the event.
Well, that was because I hadn't actually predicted a clash between the Underworld and the 72 Demons like she thought. It was more like the Underworld randomly grabbed the 72 Demons by the hair first, and I just seized the opportunity to stir up some chaos.
However, the Princess of Frost didn't even consider that possibility. She sent another message after a long pause.
While I sat back, munching on snacks I bought from the convenience store, she was busy reconstructing the sequence of events with her brilliant mind. It seemed that in her head, I was rapidly transforming into some sort of genius mastermind.
At her words, I finally let out a sigh of relief and smiled. Of course, seeing how the Underworld and the 72 Demons were fighting like they wanted to tear each other's throats out, the chances of them joining forces were practically zero. But still, it would have been troublesome if the two nebulae realized they had both been played by me and decided to team up.
But thanks to the tiny lie I told, combined with her self-styled reinterpretation of the events, it ultimately looked as though I, a victim who had my incarnation stolen by two constellations of the Underworld, had done a massive favor for their rivals, the 72 Demons.
Since things had turned out this way, I was fully prepared to sit back with satisfaction and watch the 72 Demons wage war on the Underworld. But then...
Receiving such high praise for something so trivial made me feel a bit embarrassed. If the Princess had spent even a little time on Earth's internet communities, she could have easily come up with something like this. I guess because the constellation forums are exclusive to deities, they are incredibly naive compared to Earth.
Well, because the incident happened first and I just pieced it together afterward. Of course, I couldn't say that, so I began typing a response.
"Huh?" I tilted my head at her sudden dismissal.
Names that sounded vaguely familiar popped up. After a quick search...
Ah, it's that.
Sure enough, they were names from the 72 demons of Solomon. Which meant...
I stood frozen for a moment, utterly dumbfounded by this unexpected turn of events.
So... she's inviting me to join the 72 Demons nebula right now?
I barely managed to suppress a shout of joy. Screaming in the middle of the night would be a nuisance to the neighbors, after all.
In any case, the 72 Demons was a colossal nebula, easily ranking among the top five of all nebulae. Even if I had ascended to a supreme-grade constellation, it wasn't a group one could just join on a whim. And yet, such a prestigious nebula was extending an invitation to me first.
Joining them would undoubtedly grant me immense power... but I was caught off guard by the sudden offer. More importantly, there was a fundamental problem. I wasn't a demon; I was just an ordinary human.
As mentioned before, nebulae are typically gatherings of those with similar backgrounds, achievements, or natures. I shared neither a world, a race, nor an alignment with the 72 Demons. Yet, upon reading my message, the Princess of Frost merely questioned me in return.
Her sudden attack stung a little. Calling someone devilish... Then again, she was a demon herself, so from her perspective, it might have been a compliment.
"Woohoo!"
With the conversation heading in this direction, I couldn't hold back my cheers any longer. Besides, in my previous post, I had openly declared the Great Warrior of Tartarus as my next target for revenge. The Great Warrior of Tartarus was a supreme-grade constellation. He shared the same grade as me, but his faction's influence was beyond imagination.
To maintain the reputation and prestige I had gained from this incident, I needed to show results. I had been racking my brain over how to exact revenge on the Great Warrior of Tartarus...
But if I join the 72 Demons, things become so much easier.
I was about to stumble my way into a nebula that would normally be completely out of my reach. I quickly sent a reply.
And just like that, I casually joined one of the most powerful nebulae without it ever being part of my plan. After chatting with the Princess of Frost for quite some time, the sky began to brighten.
"Huh?"
"Ah, right!"
I had fully intended to sign an incarnation contract with her, but I completely forgot because I was too busy chatting with the Princess of Frost! It seemed I had caused yet another massive misunderstanding, but that wasn't the main issue.
Wait, didn't they say she had a few days left before her execution?
With that sudden, alarming thought, I hurriedly turned on the screen.
