Chapter 35: The Frenzied Parents
Ding Huan, still hiding in Penglu Mountain, was unaware that his name had already become famous in Puhai.
As the tens of thousands of gene beasts surged past him, Ding Huan finally let out a sigh of relief.
Just moments ago, he had been prepared to face certain death.
With his current strength, the chances of surviving such a massive wave of gene beasts were slim to none.
Fortunately, these gene beasts weren’t targeting him.
They were simply going on a rampage as a group.
But wait, if they weren’t coming for him, then who were they after?
Ding Huan quickly dismissed the thought that the gene beasts were just randomly going berserk.
That couldn’t be the case.
His heart tightened again as he recalled an incident from a few months ago when he was heading to Puhai.
At that time, a group of gene beasts had intercepted the train, and the military had to step in to resolve the situation.
Ding Huan knew that the matter wasn’t over yet.
The aftermath of that incident hadn’t fully played out, and now tens of thousands of gene beasts were pouring out of Penglu Mountain.
Despite the mountain range spanning hundreds of kilometers, it was far from enough to sustain the gene beasts.
They were clearly seeking new territory.
Without a doubt, Ding Huan knew that Lujiang City would be their first target.
Lujiang was a large city, but its defenses were even weaker than those of the small Anhe County.
If these tens of thousands of gene beasts were to attack, the consequences would be catastrophic.
With a sigh, Ding Huan stepped out of the cave.
He knew that with his current abilities, there was no way he could stop this from happening.
In his previous life, he hadn’t paid much attention to what happened to Lujiang City.
After gaining some freedom, he had only focused on gathering information about himself and his father, Ding Baishan.
Matters like gene beast invasions or the admissions of the top ten academies on Blue Star were never on his radar.
Watching the direction in which the beast horde was heading, Ding Huan turned resolutely and dashed deeper into Penglu Mountain.
The two-horned fire lizard was also a mutated beast, but Ding Huan was certain that it wouldn’t join the gene beast horde in rushing out of Penglu Mountain.
The fire lizard had the bloodline of a divine dragon, and even a level three mutated gene beast like the black ape wouldn’t be able to command or influence it.
Without a doubt, the two-horned fire lizard had taken advantage of the chaos to venture deeper into Penglu Mountain to claim its territory.
For Ding Huan, this was also his opportunity.

The first round of the assessment, the gene fusion compatibility test, had lasted a full five days.
Nearly two million participants had taken part, but only three hundred thousand had passed the first round.
Many candidates had passed their own gene fusion compatibility tests with scores as high as 80%, but when it came to the actual assessment, they still couldn’t reach the E-level threshold.
The second round of the assessment was scheduled to take place in two days.
When Qu Yi, Qu Fei, and Qu Jiuyi arrived at the Tinghuan Grand Hotel, they found it nearly impossible to even enter the building, let alone meet Ding Huan.
The place was swarming with people trying to see Ding Huan and Geng Qianxing.
The crowd was so dense that not even a fly could squeeze through.
“Xiao Yi, I’m afraid we won’t be able to see Teacher Ding,” Qu Jiuyi said with a heavy expression.
Ding Huan was a training instructor at Yujiang University, and three of his students had achieved S-level results in the assessment.
Even if Ding Huan had only played a minor role, the fact that he had taught these students made him a target for everyone seeking his guidance.
Qu Yi remained silent.
Given the current situation, it was clear that meeting Ding Huan was out of the question.
“Everyone, make way! I’m a classmate of Teacher Ding Huan!” A clear, melodious voice rang out.
Everyone, including Qu Yi, turned to look.
The speaker was a beautiful young woman.
“Are you really Teacher Ding’s classmate?” someone who had been struggling to get through the crowd asked, as if grasping at a lifeline.
If they couldn’t find Teacher Ding, then finding his classmate might be the next best thing.
After all, Geng Qianxing was the main instructor, but Ding Huan, as the assistant instructor, must also have some skills.
When Luo Xinwei first learned that Ding Huan was the mentor for Yujiang University’s students in this assessment, she had simply thought that Ding Huan was lucky to have landed such a good position right after joining Yujiang University.
She hadn’t given it much thought at the time and hadn’t even planned to chat with Ding Huan for long.
But when she found out that three of Yujiang University’s students had achieved S-level results in the first round of the assessment, and that Ding Huan was indeed their mentor, she was desperate to see him.
Luo Xinwei even fantasized that if she could secure a spot in the next Blue Star Top Ten Academies’ admissions assessment, she might be able to ask Ding Huan to put in a good word for her with Geng Qianxing, so she could receive some pre-assessment training.
“Yes, my name is Luo Xinwei. I’ve been classmates with Ding Huan for four years, and we’re very good friends. Please let me through. I need to speak with Teacher Ding Huan,” Luo Xinwei said confidently.
Strictly speaking, she wasn’t even a mentor.
She had only managed to curry favor with the teacher leading the team from Luohe Shangwu University and had been given a menial task.
In Luo Xinwei’s mind, as long as she stood in front of Ding Huan, he wouldn’t refuse any of her requests.
In truth, she was a little annoyed because Ding Huan’s phone had been unreachable.
If she could have reached him, she wouldn’t have had to struggle through this crowd.
“Miss Luo, is Ding Huan really a training instructor at Yujiang University?” Qu Jiuyi asked.
Qu Jiuyi knew that Ding Huan was a training instructor at Yujiang University, and hearing that Luo Xinwei was Ding Huan’s classmate, he wanted to strike up a conversation to get closer to her.
Luo Xinwei frowned slightly but then replied, “Of course. Both he and I graduated from Luohe Shangwu University. He was assigned to Yujiang University as a mentor, and I was assigned to Luohe Shangwu University as a mentor.”
In reality, Ding Huan had been assigned as a mentor at Yujiang University, while she was just an assistant.
“Yes, I can vouch for that. My mentors are Teacher Ding and Teacher Geng,” another voice chimed in.
“Your mentors are Teacher Geng and Teacher Ding? What’s your name?” a bald man asked in surprise.
“I…”
Huang Chengwei’s face turned red.
It was true that his mentors had been Ding Huan and Geng Qianxing, but he had foolishly run away from them.
Now, under pressure from his family, he had come here in the hopes of getting another chance to participate in the Blue Star Top Ten Academies’ assessment.
“Forget it, stop bragging,” someone sneered.
Luo Xinwei gave Huang Chengwei a disdainful look and pushed her way through the crowd.
Once the crowd realized that Luo Xinwei was Ding Huan’s classmate, they made way for her.
No one wanted to offend someone who was close to Teacher Geng and Teacher Ding.
Seeing an opening, Qu Jiuyi quickly followed Luo Xinwei, easily making his way to Geng Qianxing and Tan Pei, the president of Yujiang University.
Tan Pei and Geng Qianxing were being interviewed in the hotel lobby, which was why they were stuck on the first floor.
“President Tan, is Ding Huan here?” Luo Xinwei asked with a smile as soon as she entered.
“And you are?” Tan Pei looked at Luo Xinwei and the people behind her with confusion.
Luo Xinwei explained, “My name is Luo Xinwei. I was Ding Huan’s classmate at Luohe Shangwu University. After graduation, we were both assigned jobs—I stayed at our university, and Ding Huan came to Yujiang University.”
Geng Qianxing quickly added, “Teacher Ding isn’t here. He had some urgent business to attend to, and I’m not sure where he went.”
“Teacher Geng, I just hope you can train my child for one day—no, just half a day will do. This is for you…”
A woman who had managed to squeeze through the crowd urgently spoke up and handed a briefcase to Geng Qianxing.
Without even opening the briefcase, everyone knew it was filled with cash.
The fact that she could bring a briefcase full of cash here and openly offer it to Geng Qianxing showed that she was no ordinary person.
Some martial artists in the crowd guessed that the woman might be close to reaching the Yellow-level.
Geng Qianxing and Tan Pei were both at a loss.
Was this really happening? Offering bribes in the middle of a crowd? Who taught her to do this?
However, Tan Pei could understand the parent’s desperation.
With only two days left before the second round of the assessment, this might be her only chance.
The woman had indeed thought this through.
With the second round of the assessment just two days away, who knew if Geng Qianxing would even show up after today? She had no time to waste.
“Teacher Geng, my child is also willing to train under you. No matter the cost, we’re willing to pay…”
The two of them seemed to have lit a fuse, as everyone else began offering more money or even other valuable items in exchange for training.
Tan Pei looked at the chaotic crowd and helplessly covered his forehead.
The interview couldn’t continue under these circumstances.
He had dreamed of Yujiang University making a splash in this admissions assessment, but this was beyond his wildest expectations.
No, this was beyond anyone’s expectations—it was shaking the entire world.
Seeing that the situation was becoming unbearable, Geng Qianxing finally spoke up, “Everyone, please listen to me.”
The crowd quieted down as Geng Qianxing took a deep breath and stood on a coffee table to address them.
“I understand how you all feel, but I must be honest with you. Yujiang University trained three students, and yes, all three achieved excellent results. To be honest, even I was shocked and puzzled by this. I swear to the heavens that I had nothing to do with their training. It was all done by Teacher Ding Huan himself. If Teacher Ding were here, he would definitely come out to meet you.”
“Then where is Teacher Ding?” someone in the crowd asked, now that Geng Qianxing had sworn an oath.
Geng Qianxing raised his voice, “Teacher Ding had urgent business to attend to, and I don’t know when he’ll be back. If you want to see Teacher Ding, it’s best to wait until after the assessment and visit our school…”
After saying this, Geng Qianxing wiped the sweat from his forehead.
He had no choice but to follow Ding Huan’s instructions and shift the responsibility to him.
Hearing that Geng Qianxing wasn’t the one who had trained the students and that the real mentor, Ding Huan, wasn’t present, the crowd slowly began to disperse.
They weren’t giving up, though.
Instead, they were determined to use all their connections to find a way to get their children trained by Ding Huan, even if it was just for two days.
