Chapter 13: The Blade Washing Society
"By the way, Teacher Geng, do you have any gene potions in your lab?" Ding Huan suddenly remembered something and turned to ask.
Geng Qianxing was momentarily stunned before replying, "I still have some endurance gene potions. I used one after developing it, and I have one more as a backup."
Ding Huan chuckled, "I don’t want the normal endurance gene potion you developed. I want the flawed ones."
"I do have some. What do you need them for? I was planning to destroy them soon," Geng Qianxing asked, puzzled.
"Give me one. Also, help me find two or three gene potion packages from the market, preferably the more expensive ones," Ding Huan requested.
"Alright," Geng Qianxing didn’t ask further and quickly returned with three gene packaging boxes and three tubes of failed endurance gene potions.
"Not bad, these are from the West Wind Gene Company’s Shi’en’ai series," Ding Huan grinned.
Geng Qianxing shook his head self-deprecatingly, "I couldn’t afford such high-end gene potions. These were bought by the university. After using them, only the packaging was left, so I kept it."
A few years ago, someone invested in Yujiang University, which wanted to develop its gene department.
They not only built a top-tier gene lab but also purchased various gene potions.
Ding Huan knew that Geng Qianxing’s original plan was to develop an endurance gene potion and bring it to market, just like the big gene companies.
Geng had kept the Shi’en’ai packaging as a reference.
"Make sure to seal and store all the data related to the endurance gene potion. I have some things to take care of, but once I’m done, I’ll help you train the students for the Blue Star Top Ten Academies assessment. Trust me, for now, act like you know nothing about the endurance gene potion. Wait until after the assessment to deal with it," Ding Huan repeatedly reminded Geng Qianxing.
"I understand," Geng Qianxing nodded firmly.
When it came to his life, he didn’t dare to act recklessly.
As for why he trusted Ding Huan, it was partly because Ding Huan had contributed to the development of the endurance gene potion, and partly because he felt he could trust him.
After seeing Geng Qianxing off, Ding Huan returned to his equipment and took out several medicinal herbs from his bag to prepare an additive for the gene potion.
An hour later, wearing gloves, Ding Huan meticulously cleaned the inside and outside of the three packaging boxes.
Once done, he mixed the concoction he had made with the gene potion Geng had given him and filled the three Shi’en’ai packaging boxes with the mixture.
...
Leaving the gene lab building, before he could even get close to his residence, Ding Huan spotted two men watching his place from a distance.
They were sitting on a stone bench, seemingly chatting.
With just a glance, Ding Huan knew they were waiting for him.
Instead of heading back, Ding Huan found a secluded spot and sat down, keeping an eye on them.
Even though he had only been cultivating for half a day, he was confident he could take them down.
But since this was a school, he decided to wait until he was off campus to make his move.
The campus was noticeably busier, a testament to the allure of the Blue Star Top Ten Academies.
Yujiang University only had twenty slots, yet hundreds, if not thousands, had come.
It was clear that connections would play a big role in who got in.
The university president, Tan Bei, must be basking in the limelight these days.
...
"Li Changqi, it’s already dark. That Ding Xiaotu definitely isn’t coming back today," Dong Gu complained, clearly frustrated.
The two had been tailing Ding Huan for over a week, from outside the school to inside, and still hadn’t caught a glimpse of him.
Li Changqi nodded and stood up, "Let’s call it a day. We’ll come back tomorrow. Even if he comes back tonight, he’ll definitely trigger the mark I left."
"That little brat is wasting our time. When we catch him, I’ll make sure he begs for death," Dong Gu cursed as he stood up.
From a distance, Ding Huan watched the two men leave and immediately returned to his place.
He tossed his bag inside, grabbed a short blade, and followed them.
Thinking about his miserable past life, Ding Huan had no intention of holding back.
He had assumed the two would have driven here, but they only walked for about ten minutes before entering a small courtyard.
Yujiang University was located in the suburbs of Luohe City.
Back when the university was thriving, the surrounding area had developed into a small college town with various shops and rental properties.
Small courtyards like the one they entered were common around the university.
However, after Yujiang University failed to establish a strong martial arts program and its natural sciences fell behind, the university tried to make a comeback by heavily investing in its gene lab.
In fact, Yujiang’s gene lab was considered one of the best in the region.
Unfortunately, the investment didn’t pay off.
After years of research, no significant breakthroughs were made, and the funds were drained to a terrifying extent, ultimately leading to the university’s downfall.
Geng Qianxing’s success in developing the endurance gene potion was partly due to his own abilities, but it was also a result of the university’s massive investment in the gene department.
Though Yujiang University was now in decline, the surrounding buildings remained.
Ding Huan didn’t enter immediately.
He was certain these two were just lackeys sent to tail him.
If they were being monitored, there was a small chance the courtyard might have surveillance.
Even if they weren’t being watched, the landlord might have installed cameras.
Though he couldn’t be sure, Ding Huan thought about where he would place cameras if he were monitoring these two.
The courtyard gate, facing either inside or outside, seemed like the most likely spots.
After carefully inspecting the walls, Ding Huan confirmed there were no cameras there.
He cautiously approached the side of the gate and quickly spotted cameras both inside and outside the courtyard.
After disabling the cameras, Ding Huan boldly entered the courtyard and knocked on the door.
"It’s you? Ding Xiaotu?" Dong Gu opened the door, staring in disbelief at the person in front of him.
They had been tailing Ding Huan for over a week without success, and now he had shown up at their doorstep.
It felt surreal.
Before Dong Gu could react, Ding Huan punched him in the temple, knocking him out cold.
Li Changqi, realizing what had happened, pulled a dagger from his waist and lunged at Ding Huan.
Though Ding Huan had only been cultivating for half a day, he had once fused six different genes and was a fourth-level gene cultivator.
Having wandered the universe for so long, he had experienced countless battles.
Before Li Changqi could get close, Ding Huan sidestepped and struck him with his elbow.
Li Changqi let out a scream and collapsed to the ground, staring at Ding Huan in terror.
From what they knew, Ding Xiaotu was just a student, and not a particularly capable one at that.
But the way he had just moved was like someone who had been fighting all his life.
"Who sent you?" Ding Huan ignored Li Changqi on the ground and closed the door behind him before taking a seat on a chair.
"Ding Xiaotu, if you dare touch us, I swear you’ll regret not dying sooner. I’m just a lackey. Hurting me won’t do you any good," Li Changqi threatened, trying to sound tough.
He had calmed down a bit.
Ding Xiaotu must have learned some martial arts, which wasn’t surprising.
Ding Baishan had plenty of money and could hire any martial arts instructor he wanted.
But so what if he knew a bit of martial arts? He was just a student.
With his life experience, Li Changqi was sure he could intimidate this young punk.
Ding Huan smiled, "Don’t worry, I won’t hit you if you don’t talk."
Hearing this, Li Changqi didn’t feel relieved.
Instead, a chill ran down his spine.
Before he could say anything else, he saw Ding Huan pull out a packaging box and open it, revealing a vial of liquid.
As Ding Huan walked over to the still-unconscious Dong Gu, pried open his mouth, and poured the entire contents of the vial into it, Li Changqi was stunned.
Was that Shi’en’ai gene potion? And not the injectable kind? How could Ding Xiaotu be so generous as to give such a precious potion to Dong Gu?
Even if they sold everything they had, they couldn’t afford that.
After finishing, Ding Huan sat back down, holding another packaging box, this one also labeled Shi’en’ai.
"This one’s for you. If you don’t answer my questions quickly, I’ll help you drink it," Ding Huan said with a smile.
Dong Gu’s eyes snapped open, and he let out a blood-curdling scream before rolling on the ground.
In less than a minute, blood started pouring from his seven orifices, and he began vomiting chunks of his internal organs.
Li Changqi watched in horror as Dong Gu writhed and bled, his face as pale as a sheet.
He looked at Ding Huan, whose expression hadn’t changed at all, and couldn’t stop trembling.
Was Ding Xiaotu a demon? How could a student be so ruthless?
"I’ll give you one minute. If you don’t talk, I’ll leave," Ding Huan said, still smiling.
Inside, he sneered.
If he hadn’t developed an extreme tolerance to various gene potions in his past life, his death would have been far more gruesome than Dong Gu’s.
"I’ll talk, I’ll talk! I’m from the Blade Washing Society... You can’t touch me. You know how powerful the Blade Washing Society is. If you harm me, they won’t let it go..."
Li Changqi’s lips trembled as he spoke.
He wanted to threaten Ding Huan with the society’s might, but he couldn’t find the right words to express it.
