It's Common Sense That TS Makes You Good at Games
My name is Seo Yeonwoo. My pro gamer nickname is Dice.
I'm a mid laner in my fourth year since debut, with three runner-up finishes at the Eld Cup.
And right now, I'm someone who collapsed and woke up to find himself turned from a man into a woman.
After coming to my senses and grasping the situation, my demand for them to bring me a computer was, of course, completely ignored.
It didn't make sense to haul a desktop into the hospital room in the first place. Even if they brought a laptop and I played over Wi-Fi, I wouldn't perform at my real level. And above all, the doctor wouldn't allow it.
"What game when you're sick?" was the gist of it.
Yeah, that's not wrong, but it kinda is, but right now, that's not the point.
I considered sneaking out of the hospital and hitting up a PC bang, but I got caught the moment I tried, so I had to give up.
In the end, all I could do, trapped in the hospital, was lie there obediently, get poked and prodded with tests, and scroll through my phone.
And chatting with Coach.
It was Coach who found me collapsed. We had an appointment to talk that day, so thank god for that. When I didn't reply, he came to check on me out of worry, found me passed out, and called 119 right away.
But why didn't he tell the others?
"You holding up?"
"Yeah, it's shitty. Even going to the bathroom is a hassle, and I don't know why this hair grew so long. Gonna shave it all off the second I get discharged."
"Not a waste?"
"I'm not some girl."
Coach let out a deep tsk at my words.
"You say this every time, but fix that mouth of yours. Don't you remember getting disciplined last time?"
Oh, right, that happened. Wasn't a big deal. I just stated facts as they were and got punished for it. Had to write a handwritten apology and do community service hours. That was truly shitty.
"About that. Tell 'em to just fine me instead. Community service? What the hell. I don't even have time with all the gaming."
"You need to game in moderation."
"You say that to a pro gamer?"
"Yours is extreme."
Ridiculous.
"How's the mood? Feeling okay?"
"What's okay or not? No, you see this and ask? It's shitty, plain and simple."
"Good, you sound fine, so I'm relieved."
"Fine my ass."
"I'm worried, dude. Worried."
"Worried about what? That I'll off myself?"
"...Yeah."
"You know I'm not that type."
I knew exactly what Coach was worried about. I'd heard it nonstop from the doctors and even the Ministry of Health and Welfare reps.
But go insane and kill myself? I haven't even won an Eld Cup yet? Haven't beaten Proud yet? No way in hell, I'd die with regrets first.
"I won't die till I beat that bastard."
"That's you, alright. Good."
Coach said that and let out a deep sigh. He looked years older than before I collapsed, and seeing that pricked at me for some reason, so I spat out an excuse-like response.
"I'm really fine, don't worry. Turning into a girl ain't a big deal."
"It is a big deal, dude."
Yeah.
Girl.
I'd become a girl.
They called it an extremely rare disease with a long-ass name, but usually it's just TS disease. A ridiculous condition where men turn into women or vice versa. And it had to happen to me.
Thanks to that, my current look was way different. Height down nearly 20 cm, hair grown long down to my waist. My slender arms and brand-new pale hands didn't feel like mine, and no matter how I thought about it, I couldn't believe the soft girl in the mirror was me.
"Anyway, Yeonwoo."
"Yeah."
"After discharge, say you're sick and rest at home for a bit. Don't come to the dorm."
"Why?"
"Just do it."
What weird shit.
"Anyway, call if anything tough comes up. No weird thoughts. Heard when your dad's coming?"
"...Haven't told him?"
"Knew you wouldn't, so I did."
"What? Wait, Coach, why contact that guy?"
"Your daughter's collapsed—shouldn't notify the guardian?"
"You think that old man's dropping work to come?"
"Who knows."
"Argh, damn it! You know everything!!"
Coach ignored my rage, smirked unpleasantly, and stood up. Damn, it pissed me off how he knew it all and acted like that, but I had no way to get back at him. Infuriating.
"Anyway, I'm off. Text when you're discharged tomorrow. I'll pick you up."
"...Yeah."
Even if I did, I couldn't actually punish this guy.
The room felt bigger after Coach left. Or maybe since I'd gotten smaller, it really was.
I'd been just 1 cm shy of 180 cm before, now down about 20 cm to a wishy-washy 159 cm. Used to claim 180, now I'd have to fib 160?
Knock knock.
Ah, rounds time?
"Come in."
My attending physician entered—a guy around Coach's age.
"Yes, Ms. Seo Yeonwoo. No separate issues today?"
"This fat lump on my chest is the problem. It's needlessly heavy—how do women live with these?"
Half joke, half serious, but the doc didn't blink, just jotted notes on the chart and continued.
"...Yes, all clear. Tests match what we discussed. Body's fully normalized, no health issues. If you're struggling mentally, feel free to share?"
"Nah, can you discharge me early? Hate waiting till tomorrow."
"Special laws tie our hands. Didn't the Ministry rep explain?"
"She did, but I'm fine. No suicide crap, don't care about gender identity bullshit. Wanna go home and game. I'm a pro gamer. LoE? I runner-upped at Eld Cup."
"Rules are rules. Just one day—don't rush."
Even one day was too long.
"Even if you seem fine, you might be hiding mental strain."
"I'm not, seriously."
Same spiel from the Ministry rep yesterday. I'm good—why the fuss?
...Well, past patients suicided, so unavoidable.
"Nothing new to add. Follow discharge instructions—no issues. Policy support? Ask the Ministry."
"Yeah, heard that. So tomorrow's definite discharge?"
"Yes. Rounds end here, then..."
The doc hesitated. Something to say?
"Mind a quick autograph? My daughter's a fan."
...Haha. That? Should've said sooner.
A grin slipped out. Of course—this is Dice, how could she not know? But it stung, recalling the recent runner-up.
"Gotta do it. But I got nothing to sign with."
"Brought pen and paper. This'll do."
"Yeah, hand it over."
Last time he brought a nurse, but solo today. Embarrassed? Fine by me.
Took the paper, gripped the pen. Midway, a weird unfamiliarity from my hand. Just for a moment.
He noticed my pause.
"Problem?"
"No, nothing. From lying around? Can't recall my signature, haha."
Brushed off the hand sensation as imagination, finished signing. Doc took it happily, thanked me, and left.
After, I stared at my hand a while, muttering.
"...Just my imagination?"
Whatever it was.
I shoved down the unease.
Discharge day finally. Texted Coach as promised.
No reply. Cursing Coach inwardly, I headed to the lobby. Fine, I'd spot 'em easy.
But when I did see the obvious guy, I unleashed a torrent of mental curses at Coach. Yeah, impossible to miss.
"...Dad."
The man looked at me. Brow furrowed in a weird expression, like he'd seen something unbelievable.
...Yeah, unbelievable. Even I still couldn't believe it.
"Yeonwoo?"
"...Yeah."
The one here to pick me up was, damn it,
"Let's go."
my father.
