Chapter 84: Red Cloud Sect
Lan Xiaobu nodded, trusting that Tao Ai would not deceive him, nor dare to do so. He continued to ask, "Why didn't the Level-6 and Level-7 technological civilization planets come to Jade Dawn Star?"
"They did come; it's just that many people are unaware. Besides some participants hidden among the Level-4 technological civilization planets, there are also those interstellar merchants at the square. If a top-tier treasure appears, everyone will know who comes from the higher-level civilization planets, and they will automatically show themselves then," Tao Ai explained.
Lan Xiaobu did not press for more details, as he had understood. Previously, the ruler of the Heavenly Net Star, Mu Zeji, did not mention what to do with treasures and various top-tier magical artifacts discovered on Jade Dawn Star. He had thought these were to be submitted to the Hundred Mo Star System or Heavenly Net Star, but it seemed they should be submitted to the Level-6 or Level-7 technological civilization planets instead.
Without needing to ask, it was clear that when Jade Dawn Star opened, representatives from advanced technological civilizations had come, silently monitoring matters before entering through its passage.
"Is it permitted to cultivate immortality on advanced technological civilization planets?" Lan Xiaobu stared at Tao Ai, continuing his inquiry.
His question did not genuinely seek to find out if cultivation was allowed, but rather whether advanced technological civilization planets possessed any cultivation methods. If cultivation was indeed permitted, it meant there must be cultivation techniques, and they should not be too difficult to obtain.
"No, it's not permitted. However, I have heard that a very small number of Level-7 technological civilization planets have connections with the cultivation civilization. I’m not aware of how or why those connections exist," Tao Ai replied.
Lan Xiaobu expressed an understanding with a sound, and asked, "The honor badge given to Ke'er has a positioning chip; besides you, who else knows about it?"
Tao Ai's eyes flickered with surprise before he quickly replied, "No one else knows."
"Do you know if there is an ocean on Jade Dawn Star? Once we cross the ocean, might there be different things present?"
"Ah..." Tao Ai was clearly taken aback by Lan Xiaobu's question. Was there an ocean on Jade Dawn Star? Were there different things beyond it? Was there a cultivation civilization there?
Seeing the puzzled expression on Tao Ai's face, Lan Xiaobu knew he lacked the answer. He pulled the trigger on his magnetic gun, and fear flashed across Tao Ai's eyes. In the next moment, Lan Xiaobu saw a large hole form in Tao Ai's chest, leaving him lifeless.
The projectile released by the magnetic gun was invisible to the naked eye—truly terrifying.
After putting away the magnetic gun, Lan Xiaobu glanced at the distant roar. He decided not to head toward the source of the sound for now, but instead to directly cross the ocean.
With his Spirit Refining Technique having reached the second stage, his divine sense surged. He easily summoned Kunlun from his spatial ring to the open ground before him. "Kunlun, gather all information about this planet."
As soon as Kunlun appeared, Lan Xiaobu issued the command.
In less than half a minute, Kunlun's voice echoed, "This planet has no network; there is no information leak, so I can't collect any useful data."
As expected, Lan Xiaobu was not disappointed. He had anticipated that Kunlun would be unable to gather information. If Kunlun could collect all data on such a desolate planet, it would not merely be a product of a Level-5 technological civilization, but one of the top-tier technological civilization products.
"Take off. When you see the ocean, cross it," Lan Xiaobu instructed, climbing onto Kunlun with Gu Dao.
Kunlun moved with great speed. Even flying at low speed around, in less than an hour, Lan Xiaobu saw the ocean appear on Kunlun's monitoring screen.
"Ocean detected. Should we cross?" came Kunlun’s message.
"Cross," Lan Xiaobu ordered without hesitation.
Kunlun darted like a black bolt towards the depths of the ocean. After flying some distance, it suddenly plummeted sharply.
"Kunlun has detected a powerful suction force from the ocean. Breaking free requires high energy..." Kunlun's alarm rang out.
Before Lan Xiaobu could respond, he saw a white light shoot from the depths of the ocean and brush past the edge of Kunlun before vanishing.
A shiver crept down Lan Xiaobu's spine—the white light, if it had been just slightly off, would have pierced right through Kunlun.
"What’s happening?" As he asked, he opened the groove for intercepting stones and drew out a thousand stones to stuff into it.
Just as Kunlun neared the ocean surface, after receiving the intercepting stones, it spewed forth a white light from its tail and angled sharply upwards. Nearly at the instant Kunlun extricated itself, several beams of light shot past where it had just been.
"Kunlun, what just happened?" Now that it felt free from danger, Lan Xiaobu quickly inquired again.
"The reason is still under investigation..." Lan Xiaobu hurriedly interrupted, "Immediately leave this ocean area at full speed! Hurry!"
Kunlun responded swiftly, practically shooting forth like a cannonball. Behind it trailed numerous white lights that made Lan Xiaobu's heart race with fear.
These beams of light were like an elderly person, always striking just as Kunlun had made an anticipated move to dodge danger.
Could it be some sort of device that had slowed its attack speed with age?
"We have crossed the ocean area. Please give further instructions." Kunlun’s voice came through.
Lan Xiaobu soon realized that they had left the treacherous ocean area. However, he did not have time to direct Kunlun; he saw several buildings appear on Kunlun's massive display.
These buildings were all overrun with various vines, giving them a mottled and ancient look.
"What a magnificent place," Lan Xiaobu said, lifting his head to gaze at the scene before him, feeling internally awed. It wasn't merely magnificent; it was utterly grand.
Towering peaks shot upward like swords piercing the clouds, and amidst these mountains were various bridges, vanishing and reappearing through the mist, with numerous peculiar structures below.
Had it not been for the multitude of moss and greenery covering all buildings and bridges, Lan Xiaobu would have surely believed this was an enormous tourist city.
These structures had existed for countless years; it was unknown how long it had been since any humans had set foot here. Lan Xiaobu saw not a single building had collapsed, showcasing their incredible durability.
"Gu Dao, stay behind me," Lan Xiaobu instructed as he put away Kunlun and cautiously approached the grand cluster of buildings.
Outside this cluster was a massive square, already cloaked in greenery. As Lan Xiaobu crossed through, he spotted a gate tower.
The tower was also covered in a variety of lush plants, obscuring its inscriptions. Fortunately, Lan Xiaobu possessed divine sense, and when it penetrated the greenery, he could see three large characters hidden beneath—Red Cloud Sect.
His heart raced with excitement. It was indeed a sect. No matter what the Red Cloud Sect was, it certainly related to the cultivation of immortality.
Walking through the gate, Lan Xiaobu traversed a passage that stretched a hundred feet long. This passage was originally built from massive red stones, now completely overrun with vibrant foliage.
At the end of the corridor stood a half-obscured grand door. Entering through the door, Lan Xiaobu finally saw the sect's insignia. A gigantic red cloud loomed directly above, and everything outside was covered in green, yet this red cloud remained utterly pristine and untouched.
Lan Xiaobu let his divine sense extend outward, and immediately, it swept over several signs hidden by creeping vines, which read "Refining Pavilion," "Scripture Pavilion," and "Preaching Pavilion," with arrows pointing in various directions.
Without hesitation, Lan Xiaobu stepped in the direction of the Scripture Pavilion.
Following the guidance toward the Scripture Pavilion, Lan Xiaobu walked roughly two hundred meters and came upon a tall loft. The hanging sign prominently displayed the words "Scripture Pavilion."
The exterior of the loft was locked up. Without a second thought, Lan Xiaobu reached toward the door of the Scripture Pavilion.
In his eyes, although the door was intact, after so many years, just a single push from him should make it collapse.
Almost as his hand applied force, a chilling sense of alarm surged through him, and he quickly stepped back.
"Poof! Poof!" Several beams of white light struck the spot where he had just stood. If he had been even a moment slower, his body would have been riddled with holes.
What in the world was going on? Lan Xiaobu recalled the time when Kunlun crossed the ocean, where unknown white beams had also struck. Now, again, several beams had suddenly attacked him, with no visible source in sight.
Lan Xiaobu grabbed two stones and hurled them at the door of the Scripture Pavilion, but the door did not budge, nor did any white beams fire out.
Letting out a breath, he thought that perhaps there was no trap. Cautiously, he approached the door of the Scripture Pavilion again. However, this time, before he could even place his hand against the door, more beams of white light shot forth.
Though he managed to dodge, Lan Xiaobu felt increasingly perplexed. He looked around, but all he saw was ruin and greenery—there were no visible launching mechanisms anywhere.
Could it be the rumored formation? Did touching the door of the Scripture Pavilion equate to triggering an attack formation?
