Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Another Fallen Noble Lady
“Phew… I’m tired.”
I walked for quite a while after leaving the slaves’ quarters.
I came far enough that that guy named Peter wouldn’t be able to find me.
Reaching halfway up an unfamiliar mountain, I sat on a suitable tree stump and looked down at the village.
Instead of streetlights, torches illuminated the medieval streets.
“Sigh… I really did get transported into a game world. Not that it matters to say it now.”
Breathing in the clear air I could never find back in Korea, I once again realized my situation.
There was no point in dwelling on what had already happened.
What mattered more was what I would do next.
I knew the history of this world.
Well—
not all of it.
What I experienced in the game only covered about three years after entering the academy.
But at least I knew what would happen during those three years.
Three years later, the demon race would invade the human continent.
And their strength would be too overwhelming for humanity to handle.
While the demon army united under the Demon King, humanity remained divided, each nation clashing over its own interests, unable to unite, and was defeated time and again like a disorganized mob.
That’s where Solomon and Roze came in.
Roze, with her strong sense of responsibility and pride as a noble, resolved to go to the battlefield, prepared to die.
Of course, she didn’t participate merely as a noble.
She was someone far more important.
The reason was that Roze was one of the four chosen magicians who inherited the power of the ancient goddess, Endless.
The reason she couldn’t use ordinary magic since childhood wasn’t because she was incompetent—it was because she was special.
Her unique nature made her suited for special magic.
“The Eastern Seat of the Goddess, East.”
That was her true name.
Those who inherited the magic of East were called “The Goddess’s Spear,” responsible for overwhelming offense.
If one could properly wield the goddess’s magic, they would gain the strongest power on the entire continent.
That was why Roze was sent to the battlefield, even to the front lines.
“This is a proud duty. I’m grateful to Her Majesty the Queen for allowing me to die for the country as a noble.”
“Are you serious, Roze? If you die, everything’s over.”
“Hmph… a commoner like you, no, a slave wouldn’t understand. The pride of a noble…”
“You can only enjoy pride if you’re alive.”
“Go ahead and run away and live alone. Live like a dog without pride.”
At this point, there are two choices.
The first is to run away, as Roze says.
Then Roze fights alone and dies, and the game ends.
The second is to go to the battlefield in her place.
Then I fight and die, and the game ends.
A dead end either way.
There is no answer.
If I follow Roze, the ending is inevitably death.
“But even if I do nothing and just stay still, I’ll die anyway. The demon race will wipe out the human continent.”
I don’t want to just live quietly farming somewhere and then get slaughtered by demons when they invade.
So what should I do?
The conclusion I reached was this.
Become the guard knight of someone other than Roze—another compatible wielder of Endless.
I even had a candidate in mind.
“Evangelin Polignac… there’s no better girl to rely on.”
Evangelin Polignac.
She didn’t realize it yet, but she was the one destined to become the Western Seat of the Goddess, West.
West traditionally served as the Goddess’s Shield.
If Roze was the strongest in offense, Evangelin was the strongest in defense.
Thinking about the future war against the demon race, staying by Evangelin’s side would be the safest option.
Also, since most of the events I knew occurred at the academy, it would be best to enroll there to make use of my knowledge.
And in my current situation, the only way to enter the academy—where only nobles are allowed—was to become someone’s guard knight.
By this point, everyone had probably already found their own guard knight and built connections.
In that sense as well, Evangelin was the perfect person for me to approach.
“That idiot definitely hasn’t found a partner yet.”
Evangelin Polignac.
Not a bad person, but a bit foolish—
another fallen noble lady.
“This is perfect! If people see this flyer, they’ll definitely rush to become my guard knight!”
A shabby, crumbling hut.
Inside a wooden building hidden along a quiet forest path, a young woman in a revealing dress puffed out her chest confidently.
She proudly displayed a crudely written flyer on a whiteboard, while at a cracked table, her two younger sisters munched on potatoes half-listening, and her younger brother—slightly older than them but still not quite grown—let out a sigh.
“Looking to enjoy a chaotic and lively academy life with a fallen noble lady! A tall, curvy, glamorous fallen noble lady is waiting for your approach! (Photo emphasizing her chest attached. Eyes covered with a black bar)”
“What do you think? Perfect plan, right?”
“Noona… this looks like an adult ad. Do you really think a normal guard knight would come after seeing this?”
“Huh? But… I even included a picture of my chest, which men like.”
Evangelin tilted her head, unable to understand what was wrong.
Her younger brother sighed again.
“Think about it. Being a guard knight is a job. People do it to earn money. But if you openly advertise yourself as a fallen noble, what do you expect? What employer promotes that they have no money?”
“Ah.”
Evangelin opened her mouth, finally understanding, looking completely foolish.
“But it’s true that we don’t have money. Even if we hire a guard knight, we can’t pay them a single coin…”
“That’s why I said give up on the guard knight.”
“But… but…”
Evangelin fidgeted her index fingers and spoke timidly.
“Everyone entering the academy brings a guard knight… if I don’t, I might get bullied…”
“It was unrealistic for us to enter the academy in the first place. Just give up, noona.”
“N-no! I will definitely enter the academy! You need an academy diploma to rebuild a fallen family!”
“You don’t have to rebuild the family through the academy.”
“Graduating from the academy is proof of being a proper noble!”
“That ‘noble’ thing again… what’s so important? We can barely afford to eat, living on potatoes three times a day.”
“It is important! On this matter, I’m definitely right. As the 78th head of the Polignac family, I declare that I will absolutely enter the academy! Not just me—once you’re old enough, I’ll get all of you into the academy too and have you follow a noble career!”
“How? Where’s the money coming from?”
“I have a plan!”
“Can we hear this plan?”
“Hmph!”
Evangelin puffed out her chest proudly and spoke.
“1. Enter the academy. 2. Wealthy nobles fall for super cute me and propose. 3. I don’t marry them, just accept gifts and resell them. 4. Use that money to enroll my siblings in the academy. 5. Receive their admiration. What do you think? Perfect plan, right? I’m not stupid, you know. I have everything planned.”
“Sigh… reselling gifts? That’s such a trashy idea.”
“Huh? I thought you’d praise me…”
Evangelin pouted as her brother shook his head.
That was the reality.
She was foolish enough to be looked down on even by her younger brother.
Still, her love for her siblings and her determination to support the family as its head were genuine.
That was why her younger brother, Louis Polignac, didn’t criticize her more than necessary.
But this time was different.
Putting aside whether her plan of attracting men at the academy would work, even entering the academy itself was unrealistic.
If she struggled this much just to find one guard knight, how would she overcome the challenges ahead?
They didn’t even have money to hire one.
Forget wages—they didn’t even have savings.
“But I still handed out the flyers… if someone sees how cute I am, maybe some kind, gullible man will come work for free?”
“Where does your confidence even come from?”
“From this generous chest.”
Evangelin emphasized her voluptuous chest again.
It was impressive enough to silence Louis.
“Ahem. But noona, just having a big chest doesn’t mean men will listen to you. You need to understand men better. I guarantee that flyer will only attract shady old men with bad intentions.”
As Louis was thinking about how to make her give up without hurting her feelings, there was a knock on the door.
Evangelin rushed out, saying, “It must be a guard knight applicant!” while Louis, thinking it was another debt collector as usual, hurried his younger sisters away.
But when the door opened, the person standing there was a handsome young man with kind eyes—far too gentle to be a debt collector.
“Um… is this the Polignac residence recruiting a guard knight?”
Solomon had arrived.
