Episode 29
Episode 29: Eating Is Also a Talent
Less than five minutes after the broadcast started, the number of viewers surpassed 10,000.
It was still rising rapidly.
Considering that YouTube wasn’t primarily focused on live streaming compared to other platforms, this was an incredibly high number.
Moreover, this was a brand-new channel created under Baek Seung-chan’s name.
It was almost unbelievable.
It showed just how big of a sensation ‘The Outcast Legend’ had become.
"Seung-chan, we’ll remove the standby screen now, so please start with a greeting."
"Understood."
At the PD’s guidance, Baek Seung-chan nodded calmly.
As the standby screen disappeared, the camera zoomed in on his face.
"Hello, I’m rookie actor Baek Seung-chan, who played Kang Hyuk in ‘The Outcast Legend.’"
His previously expressionless face instantly brightened into a warm smile as he greeted viewers, while glancing at the rapidly scrolling chat.
"Nice to meet you lol"
"But why isn’t Si-woo here? Curious;;"
"Baek-ha~~!!"
"Seung-ha appearance let’s go"
"Kairos fans gather here lol"
The chat was moving so fast it was hard to read.
But it couldn’t escape the dynamic vision of Baek Seung-chan, who had reached the second level of Cheonyeong Simbeop.
He naturally read the chat and responded, maintaining the atmosphere.
"Si-woo? I also wish he could be here, but Kairos is currently on an overseas tour, so his schedule is very busy. That’s why I’m hosting alone today."
Nam Si-woo was currently on tour in Thailand.
Additionally, due to his existing advertising contract, he couldn’t participate in chicken-related content.
"You’re saying my acting is really good? Thank you for the compliment."
Baek Seung-chan continued responding cheerfully, keeping the broadcast lively.
Watching him, the PD thought to himself,
"So this is what they mean by someone born to be a celebrity."
Many actors and singers showed exceptional talent on stage but became nervous or awkward on broadcasts.
Some even avoided variety shows because of it.
But Baek Seung-chan was different.
From the very beginning, his bright smile captivated viewers, and he skillfully kept up with the fast-moving chat, handling the broadcast naturally.
It was as smooth as a seasoned variety show host with years of experience.
At that moment, the PD wrote something on a tablet and showed it to him.
"Seung-chan, chicken."
Baek Seung-chan nodded.
"Ah, you’re asking what kind of food I like? I like chicken. So today, I’ll be reviewing ‘The Outcast Legend’ while eating chicken."
The PD was amazed at how naturally he guided the flow.
"PD."
"Ah, I’ll prepare it."
Snapping out of his admiration, the PD quickly signaled the staff.
Soon, the table was filled with various dishes from ‘Insaeng Chicken’—the signature old-style whole chicken, fried, seasoned, soy sauce, and even the newly released nurungji chicken.
As soon as the chicken appeared, viewers reacted immediately.
"That looks insanely good lol"
"I’m on a diet, why is this torture"
"Is this an ad? The flow is so natural lol"
"That amount confirms it’s an ad"
"Well, if it’s this natural, I’ll accept it lol"
"Agreed. Forced ads break immersion, but this is well done"
"His hosting is crazy. He nailed it lol"
The reaction was positive.
"As you guessed, yes, it’s an ad. You’re asking which chicken it is?"
Baek Seung-chan exaggeratedly pretended to read the chat and spoke playfully.
"Wait, no one asked lol"
"Who asked that? lol"
"Not curious at all lol"
"He’s reading imaginary chat and answering himself lol hilarious"
Seeing their reactions, he smiled and confidently continued.
"Yes, it was imaginary chat."
"This guy is hilarious lol"
"Agreed, he talks well and is funny. Great sense"
"Oppa, being funny too is unfair!"
The atmosphere of the broadcast became even better.
"Then let me tell you about the chicken I’m advertising. This is from ‘Insaeng Chicken,’ which I’ve signed an exclusive contract with."
Looking at the chicken on the table, he picked up a drumstick with one hand.
The golden crispy skin glistened, and juices lightly gathered at the tip.
"I prefer bone-in over boneless. I’ll dip the first bite lightly in salt."
As he spoke naturally, he recalled the ‘Mukbang Beggar’ from his past life.
Unlike ordinary beggars who devoured food ravenously, that man ate each bite as if it were his last meal—solemnly and with full dedication.
Yet it was never messy.
Not a single drop of sauce would stain his mouth.
Baek Seung-chan focused, recalling how that man ate chicken.
There was even a sense of tension in how serious it was.
After lightly preparing himself, Baek Seung-chan opened his mouth wide and bit into the drumstick in one go.
Crunch.
After chewing, he pulled out the bone.
It was completely clean—without a single piece of meat left.
Watching this, the PD unconsciously swallowed.
"I just ate dinner, but…"
The way Baek Seung-chan ate was simply overwhelming.
The visual appeal, combined with the appetite-inducing aura, made anyone want to eat.
"He could succeed as a mukbang YouTuber, not just an actor."
The PD couldn’t hide his admiration.
Having worked with many mukbang creators, he knew eating itself was a talent—and Baek Seung-chan had it.
"Did he really just debone it like that lol"
"He eats so deliciously, wow"
"There’s a whole person living in his mouth lol that’s a different level"
"I was debating ordering chicken but just placed it lol"
"Anyone who hasn’t ordered yet? This is irresistible"
"Why doesn’t my area have Insaeng Chicken jealous"
The viewers’ reactions exploded.
Baek Seung-chan’s live broadcast was far more successful than expected.
His delicious eating and smooth hosting played a role, but luck also helped.
A clip of his “chicken deboning show” spread across online communities.
A handsome actor biting into a drumstick and pulling out a perfectly clean bone captured people’s attention instantly.
As a result, peak concurrent viewers exceeded 50,000.
A short edited clip surpassed 1 million views in just one day and was still rapidly increasing.
At the same time, ‘The Outcast Legend’ saw explosive growth in views.
After slowing slightly, it surged again, surpassing 4 million views, and interest in the drama reignited.
That wasn’t all.
On the day of the broadcast, the average sales across all ‘Insaeng Chicken’ branches increased by 50 percent.
CEO Go Dong-man personally contacted him.
"Baek Seung-chan, thanks to you, our chicken sales have increased tremendously. Thank you so much. If you ever need anything during filming, please let me know. We’ll provide chicken for free."
Along with his gratitude, he even promised unlimited chicken support.
But that wasn’t the end of Baek Seung-chan’s gains.
His YouTube channel, created just a day ago, surpassed 100,000 subscribers immediately after the broadcast.
Fans subscribed eagerly, waiting for his next content, and the comment section was filled with praise for both his acting and eating.
In addition, various food franchises and food-related programs began showing interest in him.
From a single live broadcast, the results were tremendous.
Beyond promoting chicken, it boosted drama views, grew his personal channel, and attracted brand and program interest.
Baek Seung-chan had caught four rabbits at once.
Arriving at the filming location in Chungcheong Province for the first shoot of ‘The Killer’s Shopping Mall,’ Baek Seung-chan stepped out of the car.
"Seung-chan, let’s do our best today!"
"Yes! Fighting!"
With Team Leader Kim Seong-ho’s encouragement, he stepped into the set.
Though he arrived an hour early, the set was already busy.
Staff were setting up equipment, and actors were rehearsing lines.
"Hello, seniors."
Baek Seung-chan greeted Director Go Jin-seok and the other actors with a bright smile.
"Oh, the star has arrived."
"Seung-chan, you’re really hot these days. Congrats on the ad deal."
"You’re doing great."
"Thank you."
He bowed politely as they welcomed him warmly.
"Seung-chan, come here for a moment."
Director Go Jin-seok called him over.
Beside him stood the main writer and an unfamiliar middle-aged woman.
"This is Moha, the original author of ‘The Killer’s Shopping Mall.’ She came from abroad to observe the filming."
"Hello, I’m Baek Seung-chan, playing ‘K.’"
"Nice to meet you. I was curious who would play ‘K,’ a character I’m especially fond of. You suit it perfectly."
"Thank you."
After a brief conversation, Baek Seung-chan approached Ma Dong-gi.
Ma Dong-gi was lifting a dumbbell in one corner.
"Good morning, hyung."
"My little brother’s here?"
He greeted him warmly, having grown close during action training.
At that moment, a cheerful voice cut in.
"Oppa! Hi!"
It was Kim Ga-hee, a rookie actress playing the female lead An Ji-an.
She had won the role out of 500:1 competition.
"Hey, you’re here?"
"What do you mean ‘hey’? I got here before you!"
She spoke playfully.
"Oppa, you should apologize."
"Apologize? For what?"
"Can’t you see my swollen face? It’s because I watched your live and ate chicken!"
Baek Seung-chan chuckled.
Ma Dong-gi joined in.
"Yeah, you should apologize. I ate chicken too because of you."
"Are you sure that’s why your face is swollen?"
"Maybe not?"
"If it is, shouldn’t you sue the chicken place?"
"That’s true."
Ma Dong-gi’s face was naturally large.
"Are you guys comedians?"
Kim Ga-hee burst into laughter, brightening the set.
The three chatted briefly, easing tension before filming.
"Alright, we’ll begin filming now."
The first scene was Kim Ga-hee hearing news of her uncle’s death.
"Ready… action!"
At the cue, filming began.
Baek Seung-chan watched her with interest.
"Not bad."
The cheerful girl from moments ago disappeared.
She became An Ji-an completely.
"What… what did you say? My uncle is dead?"
Her voice trembled, her eyes filled with complex emotions.
It felt natural, not forced.
"Cut! Good."
The director’s voice rang out.
Staff and actors showed admiration.
"No wonder she beat 500 to 1."
Baek Seung-chan acknowledged her talent.
Though not perfect, she was among the best he had seen.
The other actors were also impressive—mostly theater veterans with over ten years of experience.
The casting was clearly meticulous.
Finally, it was Baek Seung-chan’s turn.
His first scene was the one with Ma Dong-gi they had practiced during script reading.
All eyes turned toward him.
After ‘The Outcast Legend,’ expectations were naturally high.
Feeling those gazes, he thought calmly,
"If I hold back, I’ll regret it."
Even though he felt slightly sorry for Ma Dong-gi, he decided to fully immerse himself.
"Ready… action!"
The moment the cue was given, Baek Seung-chan’s eyes changed completely.
At that moment, he was no longer Baek Seung-chan.
He had become ‘K’ himself.
