The Yeouido Episode Finally Ends
While Captain Son Gijun was off chasing down the retreating resistance forces, I slipped into the National Assembly Building unnoticed.
I asked around for the place where the top brass usually made their decisions, then hid under the conference room table to wait.
Back then I had no idea these cowards would wait a full six hours after the resistance pulled out before crawling out of their underground tunnels.
If someone hadn't slammed the table, I would have dozed off and missed the whole thing.
"So other people's kids dying is fine, but not your own? Hypocrites, the lot of you."
Acceleration
Taat!!!
I dragged one soldier under the table, finished him off, then shoved off the floor with both hands and both feet, launching myself out from under the table like a spring.
"Don't move—"
These guys are really Special Forces?
Did they win their rank insignia playing Go-Stop?
Or are they just that old?
Their bodies were lagging way behind their mouths.
Puh-eok!!!
I kicked up hard into the shoulder of the soldier still sitting in his chair, fumbling to draw his pistol. The sliding chair slammed into the next man's chair, which slammed into the one beside it, and the whole row collapsed into chaos.
Whik—
I spun and hurled the mace.
Puh-uh-uh-eok!!!!
The power on that thing was no joke. The lightening skill made it light enough for me to swing, but to everyone else it was still a solid iron lump weighing over ten kilos.
Wood-deudeuk!!
The mace struck at a diagonal like a seatbelt and crushed the man's ribcage.
I spun again and charged the three soldiers still sitting there, reeling from their little traffic accident.
Puh-eok!!
I raced behind the chairs and smashed a fist into one man's cheek, grabbed the middle guy by the hair and yanked him over backward chair and all, then whipped my right foot into the last one's face.
Udeuk!!
His neck snapped under the force of his own head whipping back.
But it wasn't over. The one I'd only yanked down by the hair was still fine.
Hwiik—
Puh-eok!
I spun and kicked the pistol clean out of his hand.
Taang!!
The shot rang out by a hair's breadth. The bullet buried itself in the conference table; a split second later and I would have been dead.
"......"
"P-please, spare—"
The panicked soldier begged for his life, but that kind of request doesn't fly between us. I was here to kill soldiers, and they had been trying to kill me.
Kwajik!!!!
I stomped his face flat to finish it, crouched, and pried the pistol from his dead fingers. Then I aimed the muzzle at the soldier still sprawled on the floor after taking my fist to the face.
"Hey, old man. Do I look like a bear to you? Play dead and I'll just walk past?"
"......"
"And for the record, bears don't walk past either."
"......"
His eyes finally snapped open and his lips parted, but my finger pulled the trigger before he could get a word out.
Taang!!
Four soldiers dead. One major, two lieutenant colonels, one colonel.
And the quest still wasn't clearing.
Probably because that one was still breathing.
"Euk..! Eoeok....!!"
The one-star general lay on the floor, coughing up mouthfuls of blood and groaning. I walked over, picked up the mace from the floor, and looked down at the fallen brigadier general.
"Don't feel wronged. A lot more people died wronged because of you."
"Euk....!"
Gunshots had already gone off; more soldiers would be swarming any second. No time to savor it. I brought the mace down with my left hand.
Kwajik!!!!
But what the hell?
Why wasn't the quest completing?
Don't tell me...
Seuk—
I turned my head toward the empty seats across the table.
"P-please spare me!!"
"Please, just let me live!!"
"I'll do anything you say!"
"Money..! Women, whatever you want—"
They weren't part of the quest, so I hesitated—until that last line. My finger squeezed the trigger.
Tang! Ta-dang-tang-tang-tang!!
My marksmanship isn't anything special, but at that range nothing missed.
And then the quest completion message appeared.
Success rewards granted.
◈ Gained strong trust of the Resistance.
◈ Stat Points +3
◈ Points +500P
◈ Lucky Random Box acquired.
Lucky Random Box.
I was dying to know what it was, but getting out of here came first.
Beolkeok—
Damn it, already?
Captain Son Gijun had texted that every last soldier had been committed to searching inside the Assembly.
"What the—"
The soldier who opened the door froze at the slaughter. In that half-second I closed the distance and drove my fist deep into his solar plexus.
As he crumpled I spotted the muzzles lining up behind him and ducked, hand shooting out.
Tadadadadang!!!!!!
Whoa, that was way too close.
And way too hot!!
"Euk..!"
"Kkeuak!!!"
I let go of the barrel I'd been forcing upward and casually lofted the mace up between the guy's legs.
That shouldn't permanently wreck his equipment.
Not that I had time to worry about some other guy's equipment right now.
"Intruder!!"
"He's still inside!!"
"Shit..!"
What the hell, Captain Son?!
Why are there still soldiers here!!
I was saving this, but no choice now.
Stat Amplification
I dumped every stat point from the quest reward straight into Agility and sprinted down the corridor.
Tadadang!!!
Tadadadang!!!
Tadang!!!
Tadadang!!!
I barely managed to round the corner without catching a bullet.
On a hunch I pulled out my phone—and there was Captain Son Gijun's text.
The athletic field side was basically a dead end. Keep going and I'd have to jump into the Han River; if I didn't like that option I'd have to cut toward Dangsan or loop back through Hangang Park. But Hangang Park had zero cover—if I came out wrong the soldiers would turn me into Swiss cheese.
No choice but to break out toward Dangsan and circle back into Yeouido?
That would take forever.... Wait a second.
Is this that thing?
Tok—
While sprinting down the corridor I tapped the Lucky Random Box floating in front of me like a hologram.
The box started shaking violently; the lid blasted open, and a single key materialized in midair.
"So I get this, huh."
Deopseok!
I snatched the key before it could hit the floor and immediately yanked open the nearest door, ducking inside.
"No visual! Doesn't look like this way!"
"What the hell are you talking about?! We were right on his ass! He's hiding in here somewhere! Tear the place apart!!"
"Yes, sir!!"
"......"
I hadn't expected them to box me in from both sides.
Afraid of making noise, I didn't even lock the door. I checked the drop from the window, then jumped.
If I was going to do this I should've just jumped from the conference room.
Tadak— Tududuk!!
I hit the ground rolling in the least graceful landing possible, then immediately sprinted toward the parked cars.
Through the trees planted in the flower beds I could see the athletic field.
And the soldiers had spotted me too.
Tadadang!!!
Tadadadang!!!
Tadang!!!
Tadadang!!!
They're out of bullets already!
Why are they still spraying like that?!
"Fuck..!!"
I felt like the movie hero the bullets just refuse to hit. Sure, I was zigzagging the way they taught us in the military, but missing this badly still felt like cheating.
Hwiik!
Tududuk!!!
Anyway, I reached the flower beds without catching a round, launched myself through the trees, tumbled all the way down onto the field, and was back on my feet and running before the pain could even register.
I vaulted the Assembly wall, crossed the two-lane road, climbed the railing, crossed another road, and repeated the whole process until I finally hit my destination.
"Kraaaak!!"
"Krak!!"
"Kraaa!!"
"You keep this up and you'll get shot too! Go home already!!"
"Kraaaaaak!!!!"
"Ugh..!!"
I clubbed the zombies that refused to listen with the mace, forced my way forward, cut through a small parking lot, and dropped down onto the pier.
"Heok... heok... heok..."
I stood there catching my breath and scanning the area.
I was definitely at the right place, but I had no idea which boat this key belonged to.
"There are way too many boats!!"
"Kraaaak!!"
"Krak!!"
"Kraaaaak!!"
"Yeah, go buy me some time."
I watched the trailing zombies peel off and charge back toward the Assembly, then started climbing aboard the moored boats one by one, testing the keyhole.
On the fifth boat the key slid home like it was made for it.
Deureureu—
"Okay, but how do I start this thing?"
I turned the key clockwise. The dashboard lights came on. From there I started poking every button I could see and shoving the lever beside me back and forth.
"Hey, how the hell do you start this?"
"Kraaaak!!!"
"If you don't know, get off!"
"Krak!!"
I kicked the zombie that had climbed aboard, then on a hunch gave the key another twist.
Deudeudeudeudeu!! Uuuung!!!!!
That easy, huh... Anyway, time to go.
I felt around under the wheel for pedals and found none. But even games show you how to drive a boat in detail. That lever I'd been yanking earlier—push forward to go forward, pull back to reverse.
Uuuuuung...!!!
Exactly.
The boat started moving. I cranked the wheel hard left to clear the terrain blocking the way out.
Why is this thing so slow to pick up speed?
At this rate the soldiers will get here first.
"Move already..! Faster...!!!"
A moment later soldiers poured into the parking lot above the pier.
But the boat was finally gathering speed, and I was already heading out into the wide middle of the Han River.
"I'm leaving Yeouido, so stop looking for me!! You hear me?!!"
"Open fire!!!"
"Go ahead and shoot! Shoot! You'll never—"
Paat!!
A sound right beside me made me turn my head.
A small bullet hole had appeared in the glass at the front of the boat.
About thirty centimeters from my face.
"That almost hit me!!!!! Euiik?!!"
Tadadang!!!
Tadang!!!
Tadadang!!!
Tadadadang!!!
In the end the gunfire forced me flat on the deck, barely turning the wheel as I fled.
Anyway, the Yeouido episode is over now.
Next up will be Apgujeong, then Seongsu-dong.
"Haa... those aren't going to be easy either..."
Especially since that's the episode where Yu Eunseol goes completely berserk and everyone except Baek Sihyeon ends up losing.
Speaking of which...
"How long are you going to keep shooting?! You crazy bastards!!!!!"
Tadadadadadang!!!!!!
