Tutorial: Ding~ Ding~ Ding~
"Put down those computers. If you're caught, it's a zero."
The end-of-exam bell rang, and under the PE teacher's stern warning as proctor, the students set down their pencils. A few still hurriedly bubbled in answers even after the bell. The teacher had a strict vibe but was lenient on stuff like that, giving them a 2-3 second grace period. Once that was up, he collected the OMR sheets with the parent volunteers.
As he counted the sheets up on the podium and left the classroom, the silence shattered into total chaos. No surprise—exams were over! Nobody can hold back a middle schooler after a test.
The chatter around me was the usual: "How'd you do?" or "What're we doing today?" Lame stuff. Sadly, not a single friend came over to talk to me.
Choi Jeongwoo, Cha Hyun-su, Kwon Taek-jun, Kim Han-gil... the outcast squad from last year, when we were in the same class. They were the only ones who bothered with a Go-obsessed loser like me and actually hung out. But this year? Not one in my class.
I wanted to make new friends as a second-year, but my rep as "that boring kid too busy with Go" was set in stone. Nobody approached. And yeah, I'm shy too—hard to make the first move.
Thinking back, it's kinda unfair. Busy with Go? Sure. Boring? Hell no. I'm hilarious! Maybe Go's stuffy image rubs off.
Anyway, outside those four, zero friends. They're enough, but being alone in this noisy room? Kinda lonely.
The teacher came back with the answer key and jumped into homeroom. It dragged longer than usual—standard stuff like "Good job on the test" or "Don't go anywhere dangerous, play it safe."
Once that boredom ended, the class president hopped up front. One answer sheet, 30 kids to grade—we did it by her reading answers aloud. I snuck a glance and slipped out before she started. No point for me; I'd barely studied, still neck-deep in Go till recently. Gonna bomb anyway.
Normally I'd peek at my friends' faces before heading home, but not today. My sister was teaching me WoL.
The guys went nuts when I said I was starting WoL—they'd understand me ditching. Or they'd be bummed. Whatever.
I got home, tossed my bag on the bed, and fired up the PC. Game was installed, account made—just never launched it. Knew I'd get hooked and never stop. Promised sis no gaming during exams anyway. Breaking that? Mom would smash the PC like it was on the guillotine. My head too...
Sis wasn't answering calls. Friday no class, she said she could sleep in, but afternoon already? Lazy much? Jung Yuna, total slacker.
Game booted. Logged in with my account. Terms screen popped first—skimmed zero, mashed agree. Who reads that crap? Not me.
Then: Tutorial or skip? Tutorial, duh.
Screen faded, new one lit up. Not the tournament map.
Welcome to Frost's Abyss, Commander.
For first-time Commanders, we'll run the tutorial in Frost's Abyss.
Frost's Abyss—not Legend's Battlefield from WCK.
Tutorial was pure basics, like teaching a kid the alphabet. Moving, auto-attacks, skills. Map vision stuff—fog of war, bushes need wards or special skills. Towers, inhibitors, Nexus to win.
I'd watched newbie guides on NooTube, so it was just test-driving. Finished Nexus with tutorial Ashe when sis finally stumbled in.
"Yaaawn... Already playing? Why didn't you wake me..."
"Wake you? Hell no—I called a ton. Phone blew up too."
She fiddled with her phone, checked KakaoTalk and calls, rubbed her eyes.
"For real...? Anyway, done the tutorial?"
"Nexus down now."
Boom— Nexus exploded, announcer blared.
Cheesy congrats. Sis stretched and plopped on my bed.
"One more left."
"I know."
Screen shifted—ban/pick screen. Familiar yet new.
Now selecting champions for Legend's Battlefield. It has three lanes: Top, Mid, Bot.
Champ intros rolled.
Garun, the Valiant Warrior: High-health melee bruiser who tanks hits and storms enemy lines. Mainly Top Lane.
Muscle dude with greatsword screamed "tank."
"Garung. Total Garung."
"Huh? What's that?"
"WoL meme—melee no-dash champs are '~~bung.' Short range, no mobility."
Garun: close-range, no gap-closer. Pass.
Lizer, the Powerful Mage: Blasts foes with strong magic to disable and delete. Mainly Mid Lane.
Purple-skinned bald guy with big book, electricity in hand. Mage vibes.
Ashe, the Deadeye Marksman: Snipes from afar with powerful autos. Mainly Bot Lane.
Tutorial Ashe—white hood, dark blue bow. Skills meh.
"So, Yunho, which lane?"
Asking early...
"Lane? Mid, obviously."
"Kinda tough for newbies... Pick Lizer anyway."
Would've anyway. Garun's "Garung" tag means trash. Ashe felt weak. Lizer best bet.
"This guy's decent?"
"Way better than the others."
"Knew it. Sis, your lane?"
"Me? Support!"
Surprising. She adores Classic, mid god—yet support?
"You love Classic. Why not mid?"
"Support fits my hands. Cute champs too."
Classic Yuna answer.
Welcome to Legend's Battlefield.
Announcer—loading done. I turned to the screen, opened shop.
"Lizer starts flask, two health pots, one mana. Weak early—pots to survive."
"Roger."
Up till he asked about start items, I was like newbie's a newbie~. My prideful lil bro humbly asking? Kinda cute. Made me wanna teach harder.
Silver forever, but game knowledge? Gold level. Fine for a newbie.
His foe: beginner AI Brando, fire mage. Strong laner. Yunho: newbie Lizer, short-range mage. Mages favor long range—Lizer's short. Brando average. Hoped no overkill.
Didn't want Go-quitter Yunho, all mopey, to lose to tutorial bot and quit WoL.
Yunho's Lizer fed first kill. Couple autos.
Figured he'd sulk—tried hyping him.
"Close! Had him!! Great for first try? Got talent?"
Lip service. Play was super noobish.
But he just muttered, "Ah, got it."
His eyes sharpened. Soon, I realized my worry was dumb.
Enemy Eliminated.
Enemy Eliminated.
Enemy Eliminated. On a Rampage.
Unstoppable.
Item questions screamed noob, but play? Not noob. How'd he adapt so fast? Lizer skills shredded Brando AI. Got cocky, flashed to dodge, toyed with it. Nearly died once eating a skill—toned it down after.
Smashed tower, enemy AI swarmed mid. Programmed to group post-first tower.
My team AI lagged—1vAll. Yunho? No fear, dove in. Ult and flash, melted them.
Newbie first game? Bull. More like ranked vet farming bots.
Sounds backhanded, but for newbie? Huge praise. Ranked needs level 30—tons of games.
15 minutes in, Yunho wrecked enemy Nexus.
"This is fun. How'd I do, sis?"
Eyes begging praise. I gave it straight, pure truth.
"...You got talent. For real."
True. Early call maybe, but my brother had it.
