My Sister Is a God!
Two months had flown by since I started playing WoL. Spring had given way to summer, and finals were just three days away—even though midterms felt like they happened yesterday. In that time, I'd played a ton of games, winning most of them. So what was my Commander rank at? ...Still 29.
There were circumstances. Totally unavoidable ones. And that was...
"Son~ Did you have a good time at the academy?"
"Yeah..."
I'd started going to cram school not long after picking up WoL. If you're wondering why cram school out of nowhere, well, that's just common sense! Back when I was aiming to be a pro Go player, all I needed was Go, so school studies took a backseat. I didn't completely ignore classes—I actually paid attention during them. But what era is this? The age of mega private education! Not like I had zero brains for studying, but I wasn't a genius either, so just school classes weren't enough to keep up.
Honestly, isn't it messed up when the math teacher says, "You've probably already learned this at cram school anyway..."? Is the teacher the problem, or is it this damn world that makes teachers say crap like that...? Ahem, anyway, now that I'd quit Go, there was no excuse not to study for school. So I started cram school. A full-package one covering national language, English, math, society, and science. Yay, super exciting...
That meant on weekdays, I could only squeeze in one game, maybe two at most. No wonder my level-up speed was crawling—Commander 30 was still out of reach. The silver lining? No cram school on weekends, so I could game to my heart's content. If it went to weekends, I'd have lost my mind for real.
Other gains? My champion pool had widened a lot. Even just mids: I could handle Lizer, Twisted Destiny, and even Ahri now. I was practicing with the cheaper ones first. Twisted Destiny was an adult male mage who threw cards, with a targeted stun and a near-map-wide teleport ultimate as his strengths.
Ahri was a beginner-friendly pick like Lizer—a little girl who wielded flames and summoned a monster bear. No matter which skill—Q, W, E, or R—using her fourth ability always guaranteed a stun on the next one. That was her unique mechanic.
Luxia was a blonde woman who bound enemies and melted them with light orbs and beams. Side note: every time she ulted, she'd shout "Rhodesia!" (her homeland in the lore, apparently). The pronunciation was chef's kiss.
But mids weren't all I could play. Weekends, when I gamed the most, were all 5-man queues. Our group already had Hyun-su for mid (thanks to Jeongwoo's "physical persuasion"), so we'd rotate mid and ADC. That built up my ADC proficiency too.
For ADCs, I could handle Azriel, Varus, and Lucius. Weirdly, the good ADCs were pricey, so I grinded rotation champs weekly. Varus was a long-range bowman with insane flexibility—you could go skill-based or auto-attack. Skills? Q's "Arrow of Power" for poke with huge range and damage. Autos? W's "Corrupted Magic Arrow" passive added splash on hits for sustained DPS.
Lucius was WoL's first Black champ, dual-wielding pistols. His passive "Purifying Shooter" made autos fire two shots after skills—pure auto-attacker. Plus, under Taek-jun's guidance (Diamond support main), I got pretty good at support too. That's why I practiced Ahri and Luxia—they flex mid or support.
Soon-to-be-Commander-30 me needed to start ranked. Ranked required 16 champs, with bans like tournaments: 3 bans each, then picks 1 through 5. Picks went in order, so you called your lane early—low chance for your preferred role. (Side note: that 16-champ limit killed my dream of rushing Raizir...)
Mid and top, the hot lanes, usually went to 1st or 2nd pick. Hard to argue, since pick order was by LP. Higher picks had higher rank than me. Sure, I was confident now—I could climb to Gold easy. Even in norms with the crew, enemy highs were Gold, and I never lost lane, macro, or teamfights.
But randoms wouldn't yield mid to some no-name. So I practiced ADC and support too.
One thing I still hadn't touched?
"I wanna play Raizir..."
Weirdly, in two months, Raizir never hit rotation. Come on, just once—please, Revolt (WoL's parent company)...
I'd barely finished praying when someone knocked. That upbeat rhythm? Only one person.
"Yunho, whatcha up to?"
"Here to tease my exam-week little bro?"
"Piss off."
My neck ached. Throbbing. How was that thing from the same womb my sister? She wasn't a sister—she was the enemy.
"Hmm~ Your big sis has good news and bad news. Which first?"
What bullshit surprise was this? Zero interest, so I mumbled,
"Good news."
"Oho~ Yunho's got good instincts?"
"What 'our Yunho'—spill it."
"Raizir's in this week's rotation."
"...!?"
My eyes snapped open. This wasn't just good news—it was the big one I'd waited two months for! I lunged for the PC tower.
Smack! Yuna slapped my hand away.
"Hey!"
"Bad news first."
Oh, right. But the good news was so fire, I asked nicely,
"What's the bad?"
"Your school's exams: Fri-Thu-Wed-Mon. Good luck."
She stuck out her tongue, mocked me, and bounced. Our school, after sandwiching Children's Day in midterms, now crammed Sat-Sun into finals. Two student holidays nuked—brutal.
And... WoL rotations updated Tuesdays. Today Monday meant Raizir free tomorrow—dropping the day my exams ended.
"Haa..."
Just play anyway? Like I said before, my parents were strict on games. They hated it outside exams—during? Forget it. My high crashed through the floor into the basement. Pathetic, getting hyped just on rotation news. Did WoL dumb me down? Guess Raizir wasn't my fate. Fine, study time. I pulled textbooks and workbooks from my bag.
A week later, exams done, last subject (math, why...) graded.
Who cared? Raizir was long gone...
I showed face in the 3rd-floor lobby. Skipped midterms, got called traitor—skip finals? Traitor to the nation. Better appear.
"Yo, you made it. Exams good?"
"Eh, 60-70 maybe? Last time was 50s."
"Shut up, 88."
"...You?"
"Don't pull that ancient-dad-joke bullshit. Spill or die. Betray us all, you're dead."
Wasn't a joke... I tossed Hyun-su my test papers. He scanned, then yelled,
"Jung Yunho, you traitor fuck!! Another deceiver!!! Where's our dumb trio's bond?!"
"Hear hear!"
Never agreed to that trio, and you're too loud. What agro, Gilio?
"Maybe it's your fault for not studying?"
Taek-jun nailed it. Top-student vibes.
"Fuckers... Whatever, PC bang?"
"Wait, Yunho, you can go?"
"Nah, just showing face. Home for games."
Conservative fam banned PC bangs hard. Sis snuck, but no balls here. Risk death for bang? Home's fine.
Home, PC on, WoL login. Check rotation first. If nothing good, Twisted Destiny or pre-exam Jellian practice.
But a new screen overlaid the client.
