CHAPTER: 010 It Feels Like They Understand?!
CHAPTER: 010 It Feels Like They Understand?!
Yoonseul held the crying Dasomi and bounced her while patting her back.
Pat, pat—
But when he held her and patted her back,
Dasomi cried even more bitterly.
“Huaaaang—”
‘What even is family? Why is this person being so gentle to me? I was alone in my past life, and even here, I got abandoned by my mom.’
Dasomi couldn’t understand her own heart.
She was just sad.
This kindness.
This warmth.
The thought that it might disappear someday was all that filled her head.
“Heee-eeng—”
Yoonseul’s voice reached her ear.
For some reason,
her stomach turned.
“Our Dasomi… your diaper’s clean, and you got a bath, so I thought you’d feel okay… Why are you so sad?”
Even while bouncing her, Yoonseul tried to soothe Dasomi—who had buried her face in his chest and was crying her heart out—with a flustered expression.
“We can’t communicate… Hoo. I should’ve studied child psychology back then… I can’t tell what she’s anxious about… Is she sick somewhere?”
In the end,
Dasomi cried for a long time, got exhausted, and fell asleep.
Even while crying, she must’ve been hungry,
because she still drank her formula properly and even burped.
Yoonseul almost laughed at the sight—
but he couldn’t, because Dasomi had been crying while smacking his face.
Hoo—
He put both Garam and Dasomi to sleep.
Since it was night, they probably wouldn’t wake until morning.
When he opened the fridge,
he saw canned beer.
A can he’d bought at the mart but never had time to drink.
Click— push-it—
The foam rose up, and the moment it did,
he brought it to his lips and drank the foam first.
Gulp— gulp—
The crisp carbonation sliding down his throat.
A “Khaa—” came out on its own.
Tomorrow was his day off.
One can tonight should be fine.
The babysitter, Han Mira, wasn’t coming tomorrow either.
But with how the sky looked heavy and overcast,
it seemed like it would rain tomorrow.
Haa—
It had been a while since he’d had beer.
There was no snack.
He wanted to buy peanuts, but he didn’t, just in case.
In a house with babies, how many accidents happened because of peanuts or other nuts as bar snacks?
A lot of babies ended up in the ER because of accidents caused by their parents’ mistakes.
Hoo—
“Still… I wish I had something like peanuts… I want to meet my friends too…”
His intern group chat kept pinging him sometimes,
and he felt a bit regretful that he couldn’t go to gatherings because of the babies.
Grrr—
Thunder rumbled in the distance.
“Is it going to pour tomorrow?”
Yoonseul tossed the empty beer can into the trash.
He quietly went into the room where the babies slept.
Hoo—
Lying down, Yoonseul exhaled and turned his head.
“Yeah… sleeping angels. My little siblings. Sleep well. Garam, Dasomi. We’re family, so… let’s hang in there from now on too.”
With that, Yoonseul’s eyes slowly closed.
‘Since I cast Sleep magic… they won’t wake until morning. Good work, hyung.’
Garam had put a spell on Yoonseul so he could sleep deeply.
If he didn’t cast Sleep and Dasomi woke in the middle of the night, hyung would wake too.
‘Ah… I should cast it on Dasomi too.’
With a tiny movement of his finger,
a golden light gathered at Garam’s fingertips, then vanished.
Hua—
Garam’s lips curved into a satisfied smile.
He turned his head and looked out the window.
He could see clouds spreading like waves across the night sky.
It didn’t look normal.
‘It’s going to rain hard tomorrow…’
Shaa—
A white sandy beach.
Rolling waves.
A figure stood there blankly.
He quietly looked around.
“Again… this dream?”
For some reason, he had been repeatedly walking along this shore lately.
It was Yoonseul.
The sea came into view.
Something tickled his feet.
Looking down, he saw it was sand being swept by the waves.
White foam pushing in from the blue ocean.
He could feel the sand’s texture as if it were real.
“Where is this?”
Yoonseul walked the beach, scanning his surroundings.
Kwaang—
Paang—
At a loud sound, Yoonseul flinched.
Looking toward the noise, he saw people gathered, fighting a massive monster.
“Don’t let it come out of the gate!”
“Healer— give me heals!”
Yoonseul froze at the sight of people fighting some bizarre creature.
“What the hell is this place…”
“Kkaaak—”
From behind the people, a woman holding a staff—doing something—got hit by the monster’s swinging weapon and went flying toward Yoonseul.
He ran to catch her—
but she passed straight through Yoonseul’s body and slammed onto the ground.
“Huh? What the— is this…?”
“Ugh…”
Yoonseul’s eyes went wide when he saw the fallen woman.
“Wow… she’s insanely pretty. Huh? Those ears?”
She looked like an elf straight out of web novels, genre fiction, and media.
“Hng—”
Water droplets floated around the elf and sank into her wounds.
Her injuries began to close.
“M-magic?”
Once healed, the elf stood and ran back toward the fight.
“Sooho— move! I’ll attack. Water Spear, stack it all!”
A water-formed arrow took shape around her and shot into the monster.
Paaang—
The monster exploded, its pieces flying even toward Yoonseul.
He tried to block with his arm—
but he couldn’t stop it.
“Aheoh—!”
Yoonseul jolted upright, startled awake.
He looked around.
It was his house.
Shaa—
Outside the window, the sound of heavy rain poured down.
Rubbing his face, Yoonseul muttered,
“It was… a dream.”
The clock said 7:00 a.m.
His body was soaked with cold sweat.
The babies were still deep asleep.
Carefully getting up and heading toward the bathroom, Yoonseul glanced at Dasomi’s face and tilted his head.
‘She kind of… looks like that elf girl from my dream? What am I even thinking…’
He shook his head.
Shaa—
While Yoonseul stepped out to shower,
Dasomi snapped her eyes open at the sound of rain.
“Ah-ah— (I can hear the spirits whispering…)”
Baby Dasomi slowly stretched her hand toward the window.
When her tiny fingertips brushed the air,
something shimmered—like glittering particles of light in the air.
“Aua-eo— (Come here… my friends.)”
To Dasomi’s babbling,
spirits entered the house and gathered, circling around her.
‘Oh? This is the first baby on Earth with spirit affinity this strong.’
‘Huh? There’s a baby who can see us?’
‘So tiny… cute. Baby~ do you want to contract with us?’
The spirits flying around Dasomi were mid-tier spirits.
“Aua— (Contract with me.)”
The spirits listened like it was adorable, then nodded.
One of the mid-tier spirits spoke.
‘It’d be good for Earth to have at least one spirit caller. But there’s a lightning spirit coming right now…’
At the words “lightning spirit,” Dasomi’s eyes widened.
In her past life, she’d heard there was an elf in Eldria’s forest who had contracted with a lightning spirit.
“Aua-eu— (I want to contract with a lightning spirit… but…)”
At Dasomi’s babbling, the spirits reacted like they’d expected it.
‘Arjion~ There’s a baby spirit caller here who wants to contract with you!’
The top-tier spirit called Arjion entered the house at the call of Riein, the rainwater spirit.
‘Hooh?’
Arjion found it fascinating—this baby lying there, staring straight into his eyes.
‘My god… spirit affinity. A baby with spirit-caller talent this high exists on Earth?’
Startled, Arjion turned his head.
Riein shrugged and gestured toward Dasomi with her chin.
‘What do you think? Isn’t this baby perfect for you?’
‘Hmmm… yes, but…’
Arjion looked around, hesitating.
If he contracted with her, every electrical device used on Earth here could easily malfunction.
‘Then hide your power. Only use it when the baby wants you to.’
At Riein’s words, Arjion thought for a long time, then approached the baby.
“Aua— aa? (Will you contract with me, lightning spirit?)”
At Dasomi’s careful babble, Arjion smiled and took her hand.
‘Sure. My small spirit caller.’
As Dasomi and Arjion formed a contract—
a massive bolt of lightning struck Yoonseul’s rooftop.
Kwaaaang— flash—
Yoonseul, who was coming out after showering, startled as the surroundings went dark and lowered his body, looking around.
Every electric device in the house cut out at once.
‘The power went out…’
Since it was raining, the morning was pitch-dark.
“Did the breaker trip?”
Yoonseul found his phone, turned on the flashlight, and walked toward the entrance.
He opened the breaker panel, then nodded.
“Yeah. It tripped.”
When he flipped the switch back up,
all the appliances came back on with noise.
Dasomi watched the mid-tier water spirit hovering near her.
“Auaaa? (Want to contract with me?)”
The water spirit readily agreed to contract with the spirit caller chosen by the lightning spirit.
‘My name is Serel.’
“Aua. (I’m Yoon Dasomi.)”
‘Dasomi is a pretty name… little spirit caller.’
“Ee-eu. (Thanks, Ser.)”
She’d shortened the name, but Serel didn’t mind.
“Wuhaam—”
At the yawn coming from beside her, Dasomi turned her head.
Garam had opened his eyes and was looking at her.
“Uweo-eo (You contracted with a spirit? Congrats.)”
“Awu (Yeah, thanks.)”
Garam advised Dasomi not to be distant with hyung Yoonseul anymore.
Dasomi grinned.
“Aua-aam— (I still don’t really know what family is… but now I’ll protect oppa Seul.)”
Seeing his little sister babble with a tiny clenched fist, Garam’s face lit up with a bright smile.
Click—
The bedroom door opened, and Yoonseul came in.
“You’re up?”
The two babies stared at him with sparkling eyes.
Yoonseul felt like they were even cuter for no reason.
“If you’re up, let’s wash up and eat?”
As he said it, he already had two bottles in his hands.
“Garam, should I feed Dasomi first today?”
At that, Garam whipped his head away and started rolling over.
Seeing it, Yoonseul picked up Dasomi and put the bottle to her mouth.
Suck— slurp—
Dasomi felt like she was drinking even better than usual.
“Dasomi, you’re eating well today.”
At that, Dasomi’s eyes curved into crescents.
“Huh? Are you smiling at oppa?”
At Yoonseul’s words, Dasomi kicked her feet.
Like she was embarrassed.
When she finished drinking,
Yoonseul put Dasomi down on the warm living room floor.
After finishing her formula and burping, Dasomi sat in the living room, looking cheerful.
Yoonseul held Garam and fed him while watching Dasomi closely.
‘It’s amazing how she’s sitting and balancing so well.’
He wondered if there were babies her age with balance that developed that far.
‘Come to think of it, Garam too… sitting and crawling—he seems ahead of his age…’
Not knowing what he was thinking,
Dasomi stared at the rain outside and babbled at something.
Garam glanced at Dasomi, then looked at Yoonseul watching Dasomi.
‘Looks like hyung can’t see the spirits… Ah. There’s no gate here, so of course he can’t.’
After finishing the thought, Garam pushed the empty bottle away.
“Our Garam is done?”
“Aua—”
“Oh, you are? Come here—let’s burp.”
“Wuu—”
For a while now, Yoonseul had been feeling like the babies’ babbling was turning into conversation with him.
At first he thought that was impossible, but…
now, Garam definitely seemed to understand what he said.
Dasomi was a little distant, but still.
“My little siblings… It’s raining hard today. What should we do and play?”
