Chapter 72
I finally had my own studio.
Though I had to spend most of my vacation organizing the space and setting up equipment, I had no regrets.
The days of having to read Yongcheol Hyung's mood to borrow his studio were finally over.
Of course, when I muttered about it, Yongcheol Hyung retorted, "I'm the one who had to read your mood in my own studio! When did you ever have to read anyone's mood?"
I was so indignant, I almost believed he'd been eating mood-reading rice instead of beef.
The members who visited my new studio before my underground connections showed only lukewarm reactions, which was boring. But these Hyungs gave killer reactions to every piece of equipment, making it a joy to show them around.
"That stubborn kid! I told him to just move into the studio upstairs, but he insisted on finding his own place. He's always been so headstrong."
"Yoon Eden's stubbornness is legendary, isn't it? That's why he ran off to become an idol despite everyone trying to stop him. Come to think of it, didn't we even bet on when he'd quit being a trainee and come back?"
"Oh, right! I remember now. When his debut date was announced, you panicked and sent him ten links to male idol aegyo videos, claiming it was his future."
"The legend was when that bastard actually filmed his own aegyo video and sent it to us, insisting he could do it too. And he sent it during lunchtime, no less! Fucking hell, I still can't forget choking on my food because of that."
Oh, did I really do that? I nodded along, listening to these anecdotes that were completely absent from my memory.
When I cut ties with my hyungs before my regression, I must have completely erased even these trivial anecdotes from my memory.
"Ah, Hyung's studio was so far from the dorms that the taxi fares were a real burden."
"Didn't you say you're moving soon?"
"Of course. I even considered the location of the new dorms when choosing this place."
To be fair, compared to the studio I had before my regression, this one was utterly pathetic. But since the scale of my earnings was vastly different now, I decided to be content with this studio for the time being.
"Hey, I'm hungry. Is there a Chinese restaurant nearby?"
"I didn't see one. Should we order chicken?"
"We had chicken yesterday. I'm not really feeling it."
"Then how about pizza? There's a Pizza School nearby."
"Pizza sounds good. Go pick it up, Eden."
"Me? I'm the owner of this studio, Hyungs."
"Yeah, you punks! You can't just boss around the owner like that! At least offer to come with him!"
So, even if you have to push someone else, you're determined to make me do all the work.
This is why being the youngest member sucks. Ryu Jaehee should really appreciate his luck.
"Ah, fuck..."
"Have a good trip, Juseong!"
In the end, I accompanied the Hyung who lost the fierce game of rock-paper-scissors to Pizza School.
"By the way, Hyung, when are you getting your hair cut? From behind, anyone would think you're a woman with a perfect bob."
"Don't mention my shoulders."
"I didn't even say the word 'shoulders'."
Was it right to hit his younger brother based on a mere assumption, especially when he hadn't even mentioned the body part he was self-conscious about?
He's got a heart as narrow as his shoulders.
Well, at least he'd hit lightly, so it didn't hurt.
When he rubbed his arm and pretended it was throbbing, Yongcheol Hyung pressed down on the back of his head, saying, "Quit being such a drama queen."
Flicking the ends of his moderately long hair, which fell just past his shoulders, he asked, "So, this isn't long enough to donate?"
"The minimum length is 25 centimeters, they said."
"Wow, that's strict. I guess I'll have to grow it for another two years."
This Hyung was currently fulfilling a rather unusual punishment: donating his hair, all because he'd lost a pointless bet with a Crewmate.
"Ugh, tell me about it. My mom's already been on my case, saying I look embarrassing for a guy and that I'm bringing shame to the neighborhood. She's been yelling at me to cut it off immediately."
"How about asking your mom to understand? Explain that it's about 3 million won."
"You don't know my mom's temper. I'd get beaten and kicked out of the house before she'd ever understand me betting 3 million won on something like this."
"How would I know your mom's personality? Then just tell her you switched from rapping to rock. Lots of rockers have long hair."
"Do you think she'd buy that?"
I picked up the pizza we'd ordered earlier and headed back to the studio.
As the youngest member, setting up everything was my job.
While eating a slice of pizza, I casually brought up the topic.
"Anyone here planning to compete on this season of DTB?"
DTB, short for "Drop The Beat," was a sequel to a hip-hop survival show that had aired on the same cable channel, Wnet. After two seasons, the original series had crashed and burned spectacularly.
Last year, the producers launched Season 1, hoping to fix the flaws and problems of the previous show. But it failed to capture public interest, remaining a niche obsession within the hip-hop scene.
Season 2 was scheduled to air in June of this year. For the record, Season 2 didn't fare much better.
Before my regression, Yongcheol Hyung had been on the brink of desperation, agonizing over whether to compete in Season 3. With my encouragement, he finally entered and struck gold, becoming the runner-up in the season that became a massive hit.
After that, things kept going well for him. He even became a judge on Season 4 and continued to thrive—even after cutting ties with me.
"Hey, why are you asking? Are you thinking of joining too? Maybe doing some pre-competition research on your rivals?"
"No, Jiwon Hyung asked me. He got recruited as a judge and producer for Drop The Beat and wanted to know if I knew anyone who might be competing."
Lee Jiwon had also asked if I was considering joining, but I politely declined. There was no point in appearing on a flop season—I'd only get flak for being an idol rapper polluting the hip-hop scene.
If I were to compete, it would have to be on Seasons 3 or 4, where I could at least generate some buzz.
"Is this Jiwon Hyung you're talking about the same Producer G1 I know? Didn't he give you this synth too?"
I nodded, tapping the synthesizer keys.
"I'm getting a new model, so I'm passing this one on."
"Isn't that just an excuse to make me feel less obligated? This is a pretty recent model, isn't it?"
"A successor model came out, so what? I was torn between buying that one or this one, but when he offered me this, I gratefully accepted."
G1's reputation for using only the latest equipment was well-known even before my regression.
I had been the same way in my previous life, but given my current financial situation, trying to keep up would be like a sparrow trying to match a stork—inevitably splitting its legs in the process. So I was holding back.
Of course, it's possible he really was just making an excuse because he thought I'd feel obligated, as he claimed. But if that wasn't the case, I'd be getting ahead of myself. So I decided not to get my hopes up unnecessarily.
"Anyway, if you happen to get Jiwon Hyung as a judge, drop my name. Who knows, maybe he'll give you a free pass as a favor?"
"Then you'll be forever branded as the guy who tried to get in by pulling strings on TV."
"And those strings are connected to an idol rapper, no less."
"G1 will just ignore you and give you the boot."
"Oh, you'll definitely get a free pass on the way home and straight into unemployment."
"Man, the TV guys must be grinning ear to ear, thinking about the ratings skyrocketing."
I shook my head at my Hyungs, who pounced on my joke, cackling and adding their own jabs.
"Seriously, you guys are so in sync when it comes to teasing your little brother."
I decided not to tell them about the future—that Season 2 would be a flop. Going out during the dark ages instead of the golden age? That's just their bad luck, I guess.
Yongcheol Hyung scratched his head, deep in thought.
"Still, if G1 was recruited as the producer, it seems the broadcast team is taking this season seriously. Should I try out for this season too?"
"Nah, Hyung, you should wait for the next season. And get a proper haircut before you go."
I offered this vital advice to Yongcheol Hyung, who stubbornly clung to his shaggy hairstyle, hoping he wouldn't repeat his past mistakes.
It was a running joke that he would have won if he'd just gotten a decent haircut before appearing on the show.
"Does my hair really look that bad? You've been telling me to cut it forever."
"What if they start calling it the 'Yongcheol Cut'?"
Yongcheol Hyung threw a fit, insisting I stop calling him Yongcheol. But even I had to admit, "Yongcheol Cut" rolled off the tongue much better than "D.I Cut."
My honey-sweet vacation had come to an end. Of course, most of my time had been spent setting up and organizing the studio equipment.
Now, we were heading to Sokcho before dawn for a reality show shoot.
Seriously, who came up with this ocean idea?
The sea in this weather? We wouldn't even dream of going in—we'd probably get a heart attack. All we'd be doing is walking along the beach. I wondered if we'd even get any interesting footage.
Ryu Jaehee, sitting next to me, had been staring intently at his phone screen with a serious expression for a while now.
Given his habit of monitoring everything, I was about to ask if something was wrong when Ryu Jaehee, his face dark, turned to me and beat me to the punch with a question.
"Hyung, are you dating someone?"
Caught off guard by the sudden, nonsensical question, I panicked for a moment. But I quickly regained my composure, nodded calmly, and managed to stammer out an affirmative, "Y-yeah..."
"Hyung, are you crazy?"
Don't you know you're supposed to listen to the whole sentence in Korean?
Before I could even finish saying I was "passionately in love with real music," Ryu Jaehee cut me off with a sharp, accusatory tone.
Suddenly, I was being branded as some thoughtless idiot who'd been gallivanting around having real relationships since our debut. I was fucking furious.
You little shit, if I'd actually been dating around, the System would have already deducted 90 points from my Original Intent Score. I'd have regressed again ages ago!
But Ryu Jaehee didn't give me a chance to explain. He launched into a tirade:
"Do you even know what's trending right now? How can you be so nonchalant about—"
"Jaehee."
"Hey, Ryu Jaehee."
Gyeon Hajun and I spoke over each other, cutting off Ryu Jaehee's words.
Since we were sitting next to each other, I pressed my fingers firmly on the crown of Ryu Jaehee's head, as if to cool him down, and explained, "Listen to people until they finish speaking. I'm in love with music, with music."
Ryu Jaehee's face flushed crimson, as if it might explode, finally realizing he'd jumped to the wrong conclusion.
"I'm sorry..." he mumbled, bowing his head deeply.
Suddenly, Ryu Jaehee snapped his head up. "Then you should have said no! Why did you agree?!"
"Whoa, whoa? Raising your voice now?" I asked the youngest member, who had clamped his mouth shut and was awkwardly scratching his head.
"But why the sudden talk about romance? What came up that made you overreact like that?"
"Hyung, you haven't checked the monitoring yet, have you?"
"Oh, my monitoring time is 10 PM."
Ryu Jaehee sighed heavily and held out his phone.

The post on the screen was accusing me of a relationship I didn't even know I was in.
Is this some kind of secret relationship so secret that even the people involved don't know about it?
