VTuber RP Breakdown and Viewer Acceptance
There are three kinds of VTubers in this world. They're divided into weak, medium, and strong based on their RP concept. To explain in detail:
The weak stage refers to VTubers who didn't have any RP to begin with when they started streaming and just slapped on an avatar, or those who completely ignore RP. The medium stage is for VTubers who have an RP but treat it as just one element of the stream—they don't put their full heart into maintaining it. The strong stage is for those who rigidly stick to their RP, where the RP is the stream's identity.
Most VTubers' RPs gradually weaken and converge toward the weak stage, eventually becoming nothing more than a forgotten setting like, "Oh yeah, this girl had that concept..." That's because for VTubers, number one priority is fun, not RP. Of course, there are naturally some who refuse to compromise and maintain a strong-stage RP, but they're few and far between. The reasons boil down to two main ones.
First, maintaining that RP every single stream is extremely tough. Acting is way harder labor than it seems. If you've ever had to play the corporate drone in front of your boss at a company dinner, talking about the woes of office life, you'd get it. Now imagine doing that dinner every day for hours on end. No way you could keep it up...
And right here, there's one person willing to walk that thorny path... Though for her, maybe all that pain is the exception.
"Now that I've fully grasped wuxia—on to the next!"
She wasn't in RP mode—she was showing her true self. Park Yul, the wuxia girl, continued her stream in her usual form.
"It's time to recite my personal info!"
With her words, the stream screen shrank her avatar to the bottom right, and a massive PPT filled the center.
Scalaiive 3rd Gen Welcome Party
Name: Namgung Yul
Birthday: March 10
Age: Around 20 (20 in Western reckoning)
MBTI: ENFP
A PPT with a texture like hanji paper, elegant clerical script font evoking Eastern beauty.
The viewers applauded Scalaiive's stellar production skills. Naturally, this was a rite of passage for all newbie VTubers: RP introduction time.
"As you know, my name is Namgung Yul. Age around 20 in Western terms."
"Born March 10... Hmm, I'll save that story for later."
"And this 'MBTI' thing—they say it measures personality, which astonished me."
"Humans have a thousand faces, so how can they divide us into just 16 types?!"
"Wha... How did you...?"
Namgung Yul was stunned by the spot-on ENFP traits.
"Truly wondrous... I'll study this more later."
Finishing her explanation, Namgung Yul moved on... but not before.
"Ahem. Listen closely, all of you."
"We 'virtual mediators,' so-called VTubers, hide our true faces in our profession..."
"Yet that very veil offers a chance to reveal our hidden essence..."
"Thus... I shall confess what I've kept secret all my life..."
"I am a reincarnator!"
With that bombshell, she flipped to the next PPT slide. There was... a picture of a strikingly handsome young man... with a vertical scar over his left eye!
Viewers freaked out, claiming it was their face, but one sharp-eyed viewer posted:
"Indeed... That is my appearance in my past life!"
Collective shock! But ignoring the chat frenzy, she pressed on.
"This was my name in my past life. Hero of the Great War between Good and Evil, heir to the Namgung Clan. All those titles were mine from then!"
"Sigh... Yes. In this miraculous second life... To say something beyond my station..."
"I reincarnated into a girl's body..."
Mind-blowing twist! Turns out her concept wasn't just a standard . She was a Reincarnated TS Wuxia Master!
===
Namgung Yul, the VTuber with the ultimate "normie" RP of Reincarnated TS Wuxia Master! Viewer reactions to this shocking RP were roughly as follows.
Frenzied cheers and ecstasy. Sure, some might cringe at the "past life as a guy" bit, but normal folks don't stick around in these chats. Thanks to the super mod's diligent filtering, nothing too vulgar reached her eyes, so the RP intro rolled on.
"The reason I started as a 'virtual mediator' was to find disciples for the 'Azure Wind Sword Arts'."
"This legendary one-man-transmission martial art was my master's dying wish. But I won't hoard this supreme technique."
"I never learned the Emperor's Sword Arts—simple reason. Though heir, I was the family head's bastard, raised outside the clan."
"The feat of beheading the Heavenly Demon! And with the main heir dying in the Great War, I became successor."
After piling on even more lore, she finally wrapped up stage 2 of her debut: RP intro.
Before kicking off stage 3, Just Chatting, I'll explain the second reason strong-stage RP VTubers are rare. (Not delaying out of spite, promise.)
The reason few maintain strong RP: The moment a VTuber commits to RP, everyone goes all-in to break it!
Non-fans might ask, "Why do that...?" Simple answer: 'Cause it's fun.'
VTubing is entertainment, after all—fun is king. Plus, watching a newbie VTuber crumble under RP attacks? That's a fresh rookie charm you only get once. Most vets have forgotten their own RP anyway.
So for this newbie Namgung Yul—with her ultra-unique RP—viewers fired off questions via superchats to probe or shatter it.
"Hm? Indeed. A tragic affair. As you know, women's bodies lack strength, so retraining my old techniques has been challenging..."
"Ah... That's a tough topic. As the war's hero receiving honors, demonic cult remnants charged in a suicide attack! To protect His Majesty and the people, I had no choice but to..."
"Hoho, you embarrass me... Ahem. Sadly, many women loved me, but I loved none. Restoring peace came first..."
Her answers were exhaustively detailed. Not all superchats aimed to break RP, but when they did, her responses left zero room for rebuttal.
Viewers thought: '...No way it's real, right?'
Namgung Yul: 'I was a man and wuxia master in my past life!'
Viewer: 'Whoa, killer RP!'
Namgung Yul: '......'
Viewer: '...RP, right?'
Of course it wasn't real. Wuxia draws from Song~Ming dynasties, but qi and spells don't exist IRL. Though... that's separate from what she actually believed.
Dozens of RP-probing questions flew, but Namgung Yul answered every one without flinching, leaving everyone defeated.
They couldn't go too direct or crude—first, Korea's anti-harassment laws; second, outright denying RP is just being a dick. Unless the VTuber's RP is already dead.
So viewers upped the ante with "she can't answer this lol" traps, but...
A formidable foe.
"Oho...! Of course! I came here seeking disciples—such a request is no trouble!"
Her avatar tracking instantly glitched.
Her mic picked up a distant voice in that archaic tone:
'Haat—! Azure Wind Sword Arts, First Form: Azure Wind Bright Moon!!'
'Huooot—! Azure Wind Sword Arts, Second Form: Flowing Breeze Clinging Shadow!!'
So... she was legit performing martial arts... Without full tracking, capturing the motion was impossible...
By the third form, Namgung Yul returned, panting apologies to viewers.
"Huff... huff... Forgive me... Seems my stamina has limits for all forms... Why is a girl's body so frail..."
She was dead serious about her endurance issue—she genuinely wanted to demo every form.
Viewers were the polar opposite.
"Hehe...! Such attention thrills me! Once my stamina recovers, I'll show the remaining four forms!"
"Tsk tsk, I only showed basics. You all need more training."
Chat exploded with question marks, but Namgung Yul ignored them, pushing the stream forward. She wanted to blame their lack of training, but they weren't her disciples yet—scolding would be rude.
After some back-and-forth, "Hm... Time's up already? A half shichen felt so short."
Half shichen—aka one hour—flew by, stream end approaching. Manager quietly signaled via chat.
Namgung Yul delivered her pre-planned closer:
"To converse openly with such understanding souls—truly a fine time."
"I know not what memories this half shichen leaves you with..."
"But if joyful feelings linger when you recall it later, return once more."
"And to the benefactor who gave me a place to vent my longing for my irretrievable homeland, my deepest thanks."
She bowed deeply, signaling end of stream.
Viewers basked in the poignant end credits, toasting her debut... when Namgung Yul lifted her head.
"And one piece of advice..."
"Never bow to the demonic cult spawn coming next...!"
"That one is utterly evil—"
Before she finished, the screen went black.
Namgung Yul's debut stream was over.
A cryptic teaser from Namgung Yul sparked questions from a few, but most shrugged it off. Answers would come next stream...
"Heh... heheheheh..."
Someone laughed. Staring at the pitch-black screen, watching her minions beg escape from the darkness!
Savoring shadow and despair—this was Scalaiive 3rd gen's second member...!
The master of ink-black void and wailing despair!
Her grand entrance was nigh... [08:19] Roughly 8 minutes later.
