Synopsis
I really, really hate my younger sister. There is no way I'll ever fall for her. NE.VER.
Why Should We Pick This Up?
It only shares a similar title with Suspicious Siblings—in reality, it's completely different and a remarkably charming novel. As I wrote in that detailed review, it features a younger sister who has been purely devoted only to her older brother since she was a little kid, and the brother's inner conflict between that younger sister and his first love. The childhood flashbacks shown from the sister's point of view, the brother's desperate efforts to protect his sister even in an abysmal home environment, and the sister's heartbreaking, heartfelt confession at a crossroads of choice... The title really held this novel back, and I feel it is heavily underrated. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend giving it a shot.
The younger sister, Cho Ji-yeon, was a timid child growing up, and her brother Cho Sung-ki, who is three years older, took care of her. Then, the sister became severely ill and was hospitalized for several years. During that time, the entire family focused solely on supporting her care (to the point where Sung-ki had to work part-time jobs before even reaching adulthood). Because of that, Sung-ki was practically neglected. He couldn't go to private cram schools like others and had to study using free EBS online lectures. The main plot follows the sister, after finally being discharged, executing a reverse-raising scheme (reverse ikuji) on the brother she had adored since she was a toddler. Reading this novel, you realize what an absolute saint the neglected older brother is. Looking at the parents (especially the father) who forced that neglect—even if it couldn't be helped—you get furious, and it feels like a miracle the brother grew up to be such a well-adjusted person. There are occasional flashbacks from Ji-yeon's point of view to when he cared for her before she got sick. If I were in her shoes, I wouldn't have been able to help falling for him either, brother or not.
In conclusion, this is a novel heavily underrated purely because of the title the author chose for the story and its chapters. Personally, I'd rate it anywhere from top-tier solid work to low-tier masterpiece among incest web novels. If you want an incest novel with a heavy chapter backlog, or if you skipped it because of the title, I strongly recommend giving it a read.
