Why Should We Pick This Up?
This is a new work by Abaringo, an author who mainly writes father-daughter incest and brother-sister incest (older sister) stories. At a time when incest stories are dying out and pseudo-incest knock-offs—which can hardly be considered true incest—are on the rise, this is one of the very few genuine incest works left. Although Abaringo’s writings usually feature almost no fantasy elements, the author exceptionally utilized the 'regression' trope this time. The story begins with an older sister—with whom the MC already had an incestuous relationship in the previous timeline—dying in a suspicious traffic accident. After the MC also dies getting hit by a truck while hunting down her killer, he regresses back to the period when his sister asked him to play her fake boyfriend. Although it isn't stated directly, there’s an underlying atmosphere showing that even if the protagonist isn't aware of it, the older sister already liked him back then. Watching the story unfold from her perspective makes it even more enjoyable. At first, the main highlight is the protagonist—who is focused on identifying the primary suspects behind his sister's murder and preventing them from approaching her rather than focusing on their relationship—gradually growing closer to her. However, even though it's an 18+ (R-18) novel, as of now there has only been one explicit scene, which took place before the regression. (Honestly, that’s natural considering he regressed to his first year of high school... The author even mentioned that if it weren't for child protection laws, there would have been bed scenes much earlier.) Most of Abaringo’s works end within 100 chapters, but I'm expecting—and hoping—that this novel will turn out to be a long-form story. It’s a great older-sister incest novel that came out after a long dry spell. Personally, this was the most entertaining story among Abaringo’s incest works. - The emotional dynamics between the younger brother and older sister, and the subtle seduction as they gradually grow closer - The regressed brother fighting to save his sister and find her killer - The scenes of internal conflict Looking at each element, I think its overall execution and quality were the highest. The only real shame about this novel is its short length. If only it had passed 100 chapters... If the author had paced the ending half more slowly and in greater detail, it would have definitely joined the ranks of masterpieces. I heard this work was originally rated 15+ and then changed to 19+, but ironically, that change feels like a slight pity. The story itself was genuinely really good.
